She. Is. Awesome… unless your name is Glenn. Then not so much.
She’s pretty cute, but she looks so vanilla. She’s not a dirty girl. This, is is my Lucille, and she is a very, very dirty girl epic lean.
Neat! I’m currently trying to figure out what weathering and blood effects would look best by using an old bat as a test subject & sanding it back down once I am done with an attempt. Once I find a balance of weathering colors and blood effects that is the most screen accurate and I’m happiest with I’ll apply it to Lucille. (If you have any suggestions for such I’d be happy to hear them!)
I see you used a 2 point barbed wire, I used a 4 point. What gauge did you use? I used an 18 gauge and about 20-25 ft.
I have noooo clue lol. I made this about four years ago, just randomly bought a bat, gave it some stain, grabbed a huge spindle of barbed wire and proceeded to tear my forearms apart trying to wind and wrap it. It was hard to do, like the wire was very stiff, so I assume it was a higher gauge? I’m not versed on the different types of barbed wire lol. Sadly I don’t have this anymore, got thrown out in a move, not by me.
As for weathering, in my experience with Jason cosplays and an official Lucille prop I’ve used for Negan cosplay, you just want to make it look aged and worn. Chips in the wood, maybe some rust on the wire, discoloration, dirt and mud, etc. If you want some gore, the thick, coagulated theater blood is a good choice. Or, go home made and use the Evil Dead blood recipe, which uses a lot of cane syrup and food coloring, but it’s very realistic in color and texture (it attracts bugs and is very sticky at first, be wary of that, but worth it when it dries). Do not use the generic Halloween blood, that shit is horrible and is more pink when it dries. I’ve seen people attach hair from a wig to various parts of the wire, some with like shreds of latex made to look like scalp. You can really be as creative as you want with it.
I’ve got my own blood method that you might like that uses acrylic paints. First I do a base coat of red where I want blood, then I mix black and red to get some good coagulation and go over it again, but in a smaller area, so that it fades from that dark coagulated red at the center to a more deep arterial blood red!
Ooof RIP your Lucille. You likely used 18 gauge as well. It’s a pain in the ass to bend manually, but it’s the easiest barb wire to work with.
Here’s the older bat that I was fucking around with. I suppose with all the laws and regulations if I ever did a Negan cosplay I’d take that one, or use a fake barb wire made from leather wrap for arts and crafts.
Ooooh…that sounds like a neat method, actually. I can kind of see that in my mind how it would look. I like the blending of it, using the two colors. I’d like to see the results of this when you are done!
Now that is a lovely girl. She looks a little naked though, so yeah, you should dress her up a bit. The blood spots are pretty nice, and the weathering. And yeah, fake wire would be advised lol. This is a Lucille I made for a friend some time ago, using a full-sized foam bat and rubber barbed wire. I spray painted the wire itself a darker grey, as it came really bright. After wrapping I did some red spray paint misting, and mixed my theater blood with some generic fake blood (it was a quick project) and got this result.
And here’s the link to the wire I used for this, in case you want to use it
Yeah. I have the barbed wire painted on that one at the moment because I still use that bat for baseball games. If I can figure out a wrapping system that would be an easy on/off but still looks good I’ll wrap it with that fake barbed wire, and take it off before games. Right now I’m leaning towards cutting Velcro strips to be the same width of the “wire” so it can’t be seen, but I’m trying to think of better ideas before I do anything.
@Madisyn_Skye So the weathering has begun!
Here’s the blood effect method I have that I was talking about! Now, because I want every prop I have to tell an unspoken story, I only did that effect to some of the blood spots. That’s because this Lucille’s unspoken story is that she just had a drink but is still thirsty for more!
