They’re docked though like a dogs tail, so what are the implications? Not growing, just severed.
IRC dreads help them balance and attract mates. Or the guy who wrote the comic just decided it was hair. Maybe some get too long to be functional?

They are also thought to play a secondary role in attracting a mate — during her time with the Yautja, Machiko Noguchi was forced to cut off her own (hair) dreadlocks during a confrontation with a Xenomorph Queen, noting that this would make her less attractive to male hunters. Among the Yautja, longer tresses are considered desirable, while shorter ones are not.

Long dreadlocks are to look more attractive. My Yautja Oc Aihrui has very long tresses and she’s a Female.
That’s why I find the thick or Viking Predlocks in-game most appealing for female and male.
