The idea that god is benevolent is an illusion, but there’s definitely something other than biology at play be it a god, some system of soul recycling or some such. There’s just no other explaination for self-awareness - evolution most certainly happens, mind you, and everything in the bible is a load of shit, but it just cannot account for our ability to percieve ourselves as entities.
