ILLFONIC! Do You Have A Community Manager?

Something I think the community would love is consistant feedback so not everyone is in the dark about bug fixes or wanting any knowlege all round. Managing a community is a full time job hence why most devs do have one employed and wanted to know if you guys actually have one? Just someone to give updates every day or two nothing much but a few replies to good questions or feedback and the odd HEY we are doing this post.

Even if we had a trello board made for the community with your plans for the future which I’ve seen some games do.

They’ve definitely got someone updating their social media. Can’t imagine it’s a coder or artist, haha. I just think they’re laying low because of all the toxicity. Especially here. Definitely not an uncommon practice.

Yeah but the thing is a good community manager deals with that toxic behavier with care. They would likely get less toxicity if they were to actually be very active amoungst us and so we are not raging in the dark with no clue if what we are saying is being heard.

СM obviously is. There are no roadmaps, because it ties the Developers to promises, cuz in life it’s not always possible to realize all the goals.

I mean, what is the use of empty promises if the Developers cannot realize them due to lack of time or finances.

The same applies to the usual communication of СM with the community. Players will obviously spam CM questions regarding new patches, but CM as always will respond in the spirit of “Soon it will be. Expect. We will take your comments into account. Thank you.”

Okay even if they can’t promise road maps thats totally fine. Just a few replies is all I’m asking. They are smashing it with patches during this hard time and I’m a big fan but you want a community to be happy to succeed and one thing that would reduce toxic comments is the odd “HEY we hear you.”

Personally I agree, hell, that’s what I did as a CM. But I’ve met plenty of Senior CMs in the industry that recommend laying low until things chill. Especially if it’s THAT bad. If a CM tried to come in and make people happy a great number of people may not read the things they want. Which, could just make it all worse, haha. If anything, threads need to be locked & deleted and people need to get banned.

Totally get that and you are right. Thing is you reply to the sensible feedback and questions. Then, as for all the other crazyness going on it isn’t a bad Idea to plaster on the front of the forums a general run down of the most common complaints and what they are doing about it.

this game isn’t as big as you may think it is, so it’s probably not a job they’re willing to designate and pay for. and they have said in the past that they hear us; that’s literally exactly what they said.

personally, idc if they’re replying to us on here as long as they’re putting out quality updates, which they have so far. i’d also rather them focus on working on the game than having someone viewing these forums all day if it’s not their actual job.

They don’t need to reply to rants.

Honestly if I were in their position, I’d make a thread answering/addressing the most popular questions and concerns. That’s really it. Hell, I’d probably even lock it, haha.

Again another totally good point but then I would suggest some trusted mods from the community that maybe have feedback from the devs and just reply freely with small meetings they have with the devs. Just something that works amoungst other communitys.

No they don’t. I’m asking for answers to sensible things. Not someones book about how they think the game is wrong and they are right.

Bang on. I mean realistically how long would it take? So what you still get a load of toxic comments but you ignore that and focus on the ones that support you.

Exactly. I think a lot of people don’t realize Illfonic’s size, and that’s fine. But they’re not some AAA studio that’s comparable to Bethesda, Blizzard, EA, etc. People are demanding fixes and changes to be done immediately and it takes time to do those things, especially right. I’m honestly really impressed we’ve received 3 in less than two weeks, and I’m sure another is right around the corner.

I agree. I’d LOVE to see a roadmap at some point, but it’s not a requirement. A good buddy of mine works there and he told me they’re sponging everything up on the forums. So I think that’s all that really matters. I told him about my preorder content not being available and he said it was something their team is looking into. I think there are a lot of complications with EGS, which I’d say is more so EGS’ fault than theirs. 🤷🏻‍♂️

just in regards to road maps: based on the past few years, i’m 100% against them. quite a few devs/games have failed to deliver, so i’d much rather them focus on the immediate state of the game and keep any future content to themselves until they know 100% that they can deliver it. idk if it puts too much stress on the people working on the game but it doesn’t seem like it works out a lot of the time now.

I’m against them unless they’re done well. But that’s the thing, if a team can set the bar to a certain level and make those items feasible then it should be good. It’s all about scope. Hell don’t give a DATE, but saying stuff like July - August, or October - November should be good enough. I mean, again, depending on the planned content and scope. But yeah, I’d always root for a solid roadmap or no roadmap at all, no in between.
