Illfonic Twitter sent me here, Advanced Stats Option

I had sent their Twitter a message about transparency and visible stat options, and their reply was to just send me here.

I think there should be a toggle in the options menu that says “Show Advanced Stats,” or something similar. What that would do is to show the actual values of every piece of equipment and every stat, rather than having almost EVERYTHING invisible to us. Look, I get that on a casual level, which is their main target, people don’t care about stats.

However, a lot of us are interested in min/maxing our builds, and non-transparency of stats makes this very difficult. Hell, many of the patch changes such as “Increased melee damage of Alpha Predator” actually has zero notation in-game. If I don’t read the patch notes, how will I know this?

I am not sure on the reasons why the stats aren’t made public(even if made as an advanced option), but my best guess is Illfonic would rather people not know exactly how they’re manipulating the game stats, and that perhaps many of the values are totally irrelevant, but face-value makes them seem relevant.

For example, if a new predator class came out and we were told it had increased ranged damage, we would think “hey! this class might suit me better,” but in reality the increased range damage is only 8%, and with the health values of fireteam members, it doesn’t make any ranged attack down someone any faster than a predator without increased range damage.

Hiding these values brings the illusion of making a ‘smart’ choice, but in reality, the choice has no actual advantage. This, to me, feels disingenuous, and I do hope these conscious actions are not what Illfonic has chosen to do.

Why Public Stats Would be Good!

If public stats were made, you then have people crunching real numbers. You then have more people willing to test out and maximize their build. With stats being public, you give community members and content creators more to work with, which will in turn, grow the game and community. With public stat values, you will have more focused builds, as well as a more focused meta, which then can give Illfonic more data on how to balance the game. In my opinion, the most valuable part of this would be content creation. The sheer amount of people who would want to crunch the numbers and make video content would skyrocket because they have something to work with!

That’s all. I’d like to see this game explode and grow. I think it would be a fantastic idea to implement this whenever you can, or at least let us know you’re working on it or very much considering it. In the end, it would financially benefit you as a business.

We’ve asked for this since like July or August.
We’ve asked for exact numbers for stats.

#we want numbers.

But it got ignored.

Welcome to the forums. While you’re here have a look around.

They literally told you to put your suggestion in the bottomless suggestion box over the trash can.

No…no…it’s still figurative

Oh no

Just hit em with a quote from that thread about mission speed where a problem was brought up to oldking hamlet and he mentions he’s never heard about it until now lol

Or the classic melee isn’t bad but it’s unfixable high risk and low reward

I think we’d all love to see this. But like almost every suggestion it’s probably going to get ignored.

We’ve been asking for this since we as a community found out that every class had hidden stats that aren’t shown in game. It’s been months now and still nothing on that, until then enjoy those arbitrary stat bars.

Yes data like this could become iirelavent at some point.
When they use data like this to tweak the game then generally having only their dev teams see it is more advantageous for them but highly bogus for us.
They probably are very mathematical based too and not actual things we’d understand.
But I get that something simple to track achievements would be beneficial.

All I see is fire lol

This is a tough one because to us as the community of gamers that play their game, we would love transparency and also to know that some of our feedback is being noticed. On the other hand, I do acknowledge that many developers view a product they create as THEIR game, so they make changes the way THEY see fit. I totally understand this, and I would by lying if I said I knew everything that went into game development and the choice of changes. I wouldn’t mind at all if they continued to balance the game as they wished, I just wish for greater transparency as to “why” and “what,” if that makes sense.

I think many of us can agree that it feels bad to be ignored on this topic. I mean, Illfonic, if you guys were to give us your reasons why, that would be a good start!

They’re doing a developer stream today–maybe if we all brought this up, they would have an answer for us. We know they read their twitter, perhaps if enough of us sent them messages about this topic today before their stream, they’ll address it. I’ll do my part and drop some messages, I would encourage you guys to do the same!

Pessimism aside, anyone here who takes part in discussion does so because they want the game to be more than it is – we’re all on the same side.

Oh @Fire ? He’s harmless for the most part as long as you’re not in a bunny costume

You’re likely to get the same response. I’ve asked a question on the stream that I had already asked a few times here. Was told to post it here.

They do read the forums but communication is very limited. A lot of us assume it’s because of Sony’s rules

That may very well be the case, but I’ll try anyway!

They do seem rather out of touch when it comes to communication, so you may be right in that they cannot say anything for fear of losing their job. It does make me wonder though…I’ve never seen anyone who’s worked for Illfonic come out and talk about how the work life is.

On Sony: A game called Planetside 2 was under Sony Online Entertainment for a long while, but they were pretty transparent with both the community and stat values. The point is, we can only just speculate due to lack of knowledge.

A good frame of mind to have is to not ask or request answers that will bring up 13 more questions becuase at the end of the day, if the answer costs somethings to them to be open about and if that answer produces more questions of the same nature, then it will cost them even more time and money to come up with those answers.

Best to only suggest a feature in the feedback folder rather than keep asking them. Decisions aren’t made by programmers, they are made at a level of personel who makes decisions based on if it is worth doing as a business.

I agree and wouldn’t want to put any of the employees in a place where they feel cornered in that they have no power over decision. Having said that, the entire point of having a feedback forum and community managers is to not only be a voice for their company(albeit controlled), but to report on feedback that may benefit their product as a business. That’s why in the initial post I tried to illustrate how making an ‘advanced stats’ button that showed all the hidden information is a good business decision that would help to grow the game by giving the community a very large volume to work with.

I liken it as a printer that feeds into a paper shredder.
