I’m not going to keep saying it. The Viking symbols are on a Viking, that means they aren’t being presented as white supremacy symbols. Same goes for a Hindu alter, it isn’t offensive because of context, it doesn’t represent nazi ideology.
I will say that if you want me to consider context, I can do that but you won’t like it. The context of making jokes about the Jewish has lots of historically relevant stuff. The false conspiracy theories about them published in Russia, caused the deaths of millions of people. Before that Catholic’s regularly said the same things, passing laws, stripping them of land, money, titles. There’s lots of historical context for not making a joke about them that puts you shoulder to shoulder with bigots. The words matter, whether written by VENN or said to a crowd or written in a book. So in this context of millions of deaths, no I don’t think it’s a joke.
Mongolians claim the swastika was stolen from them by the nazis. Symbolism changes over time and those symbols are taken by other cultures to have different meanings. The real issue is this current perma offended cancel culture. If some Jews came in and said this upset them then it would be polite to take it down. Don’t go getting offended on someone else’s behalf or you just end up with ridiculous events like recent incidents where white people have been seen shouting at black people who don’t want to give black power salutes. Also, remember you can just keep scrolling if you see something you don’t like. Don’t like a movie? Change the channel. Don’t like a radio show? Change stations. Don’t cancel the show or shut down the channel.
