Lets talk about Parry

So, I know theres already a few psts about how silly Parry is… I mean… A 8ft ball of alien super strength hitting you with a combiestick would break your arm even if you had a riot shield… so how you can start fencing with a butterknife just feels daft.
And the knockback against the pred while 3 other FT members pump him/her full of bullets is sometimes GG right there.

So was thinking what alternatives could humans have without making it too hard for the predator to score hits.

  • Maybe a quick-reflex dodge system that doesnt stagger the pred?

  • Maybe a parry that just doesnt stagger the pred?

  • Add a heavy attack to break it? AVP2 Style?

  • Or maybe remove parry, have the human able to stab back so at least inflict some damage, and

  • maybe include traps instead (like good old arnie tries in the movie).

Maybe don’t go running in to a 4 stack expecting to bum rush the objective. That said, i would be happy as someone else suggested if they made parry use up your stamina.

Parry does need to stay otherwise we are back to berserker/combi stick insta downs making the game last less than 2 mins.

Simple, add a heavy attack to break a perry

I mean, unless you’re a berserker, 1-2 FT members can burst you down if you’re getting parried repeatedly.

I like the idea of a heavy attack to break it, I know the netgun stops them doing it too, so ive been using that, but it still makes it super hard with a scout or hunter class where being staggered twice can still buy enough time for one FT player to burst you down.

And also, when an FT knows what its doing and keeps LOS of all 4 members, other than be a LOSing plasma whore, you dont really have much choice but to net one and get in there. Just depends on the FT’s playstyle, but pred melee is unreliable vs a knife ninja.

And thats why I suggested a dodge or something, so the combistick isnt an insta-win, but at the same time not 50% of your heath gone if one other firetime member is watching you get staggered.

Either that or a small time limit where the Predator can’t be staggered after being staggered once already. Say 3-4 second window?

I think parry mechanic is fine. It prevents Predators from charging at the FT brainlessly. In a 1v1 situation, they will parry some of your hits and might damage you a lot but you will eventually down them so I think it’s really fair.

Do you realise how wrong that sounds? “In a 1v1 situation, they will parry some of your hits and might damage you a lot, but eventually (thank god) you will down them” And that’s fair? So basically in a 1v2 the Predator becomes a punching bag.

its a 1v4. So… to be balanced…it should be 4 times easier to fight one FT guy in a 1v1. There shouldn’t be a “might damage you a lot” factor here. None.
