Lighting Issues After Engine Change

Having taken a good number of screenshots in this game, I’ve noticed a few issues with the lighting, mainly regarding brightness, since the game moved to another version of Unreal.

With the next gen rerelease, the lighting aesthetic has changed to a warmer tone and I figure some of this is artistic choice. Here’s an image to show what I mean.

I understand not everything will look as it was with the engine version change and that’s ok. Some areas do genuinely look better than they did previously and others I find less effective.

The main issues I’m seeing don’t have anything to do with this style change though. There are areas where the brightness gets overwhelming. One issue is a returning one from when the night maps were first introduced, where the flaming barrels introduces a bright and harsh orange/blue light to the Predator. This was previously fixed but seems to have been reintroduced with the next gen version.

There’s a few other areas where the lighting creates odd looking overexposure. I’ve added some examples below:

It looks like this lighting issue isn’t present during the cutscenes:

While this overexposure issue is most prominent at night, there are some instances where things can get very bright during the day as well:

There’s a room in the Headquarters map that also seems to have a glitched out lighting texture:

These seem to be a bigger issue for the Predator players. For example, this cave wall is very bright when playing as a Predator, but seems normal when playing as Fireteam:

I’m not sure if it’s intentional that the Predator sees the base environment brighter than the fireteam.

However in Clash mode, the cave wall was overly bright even when playing as Fireteam:

Some lighting effects seem to be inactive. I’m fairly certain the tail lights of the vehicles cast a red glow behind them before.

Other lighting effects have had a hue shift, such as this dark red room turning into a bright pink one:

Hopefully with subsequent updates the lighting can be tweaked to have the brightness be a bit less intense in certain scenarios.

Details such as the foliage and water movement seem to have improved, yet the highlights as Ridgetop has explained seem to be extremely blown out. Another detail I noticed is that said highlights and roll off within reflections on the predator’s armor, seem to be more harsh and unilateral to the subject.

Cinematic lighting would be cool I like this photo reminds me of concept art
