Mass affect contraversy

Quick recap. Basically there’s a scene that focus’s on a characters butt for the majority of the time and there’s another scene where if your playing as a female character with a skirt it’ll look up the skirt (from what I saw it’s blackened but that may have been a censored photo but I doubt it) and so what Bioware’s doing is changing the camera angle in these two shots and everyone is calling censorship.

Basically I’m curious as to what the forum has to say about this.

Me personally, at first I agreed this was censorship for censorship sakes but after hearing the context of the butt scene (which was a serious conversation about said characters family) and seeing what the skirt shot looked like (which was really awkward) I actually agree these changes are good for the quality of the game and not just for the sake of censorship.

That being said I am still a bit suspicious that these might be red herrings made to throw us off of actaul examples of censorship for the sake of censorship.

Thoughts?

Can’t miss what you never knew in my case

I need to see some gameplay because I only know the series was praised two generations ago

I haven’t played the originals but I can still sympathize personally

In general I’m against censorship

In this case it doesn’t seem to affect the story or gameplay so Im indifferent

As long as I get my gratuitous violence I’m ok with little to no TNA in my Vija Games

I mean…Cyberpunk let’s you pick your wang size. I think we’ve crossed the censorship for censorship sake bridge in gaming. I vaguely remember the “butt” scene referenced and I’m pretty sure in context of the conversation the only explanation of relevance was Miranda explaining she was genetically engineered to be “perfect” including her appearance. Which is
explained just fine without the camera angle i think.

Biowares been pretty progressive as far as sexuality and relationships in games and I’ve always appreciated their "toe the line " model of making things intimate without being explicit so I’m just fine with it personally

Not really. CDPR is an entirely different AAA company than every other AAA company is.

I’ll admit I’m speaking off of second hand information but the scene in question is actually a serious conversation about her family.

As to her being sexualized in general from what I’ve heard she is trying to seduce Shepard, so by seducing the player it in turn acts like she’s seducing Shepard, since you are Shepard, therefore impacting the story. Of course again that’s second hand knowledge and not personal experience from the story.

She doesn’t even really have an ass anyways.
If its the scene I remember.
Idk ppl dont wanna see boobs or anything like that anymore I guess.

You sure your thinking of the correct scene?

I mean as a whole industry. Bioware did brief “tasteful” nudity in Dragon Age Inquisition too. Hell Duke Nukem…nudity and sexuality aren’t new to video games basically.

Even if Bioware isn’t a problem there is the potential of EA being a problem. Plus they could of changed since then. I believe (this was long ago so I might be remembering wrong) one of the devs for MEA sabotaged the project by making female Ryder uglier to spite men so change in teams can affect a lot as well.

Meh, it’s their game they can do what they want

If you look at any video talking about the contraversy you’ll see it. People love that clickbait :P

You should see the Cameron edition of the Mass Effect quadrilogy. They have an all nude super sexism mode where the female characters just stay on the ship, make sandwiches and generally shut the hell up.

In Mass Effect 4 when you see what really happened after ME3 it all makes sense. Turns out the reapers are all just ass shot obsessed perverts and the whole purge thing they were doing was just them eliminating the lesser asses. Those with sufficient junkage in their trunkage were worshipped by the reapers.

You people just aren’t real Mass Effect fans.

James Cameron has spoken.
