So this would actually help a lot beyond being esthetically pleasing. As a solo player you’d know If your team is on coms or a full stack of randoms, and as a predator you’d know whether or not you are facing solo players or a stack. Which like, matters a ton. The gameplay experience is way different when it’s a group of players so this info would help you play accordingly

I think I like the idea of patches rather than clan tags.
They could be unlockables and if they are, I’d suggest that only one team member needs to have that particular Patch. In the lobby you can all be given the opportunity to pick one persons Patch, if you’re in a party and you don’t select it will randomly assign one. The fourth Person in this example could run their own Patch. So you might end up with three skulls and an ax.
Suggested Patches, various numbers of the symbol could be used for showing number of players in a group. They could have different iconographic types ie. crossed weapons, animals, or other common symbols.
