So you’d know after the twentieth fold, all your doing is wasting metal, and the only point of folding was to spread the carbon content around and removing impurities.
And that with the lack of good ore, there wasn’t all that much metal armour, so the katanas use for going through soft things is its point, and anything tougher than leather caused chipping and dulling.
And the tales of them being amazing happened because western swords were phased out due to firearms, leaving them only for ceremonial use, and made of poorer and poorer quality because they weren’t used in combat, while the Japanese were still using the katana in the military, so they had swords meant for cutting. and all this meant that they were superior to western swords during that time.
Also, fun fact, none of the swords in WW2 were katanas. They were Gunto, a far cheaper alternative.
Have you ever smithed anything metal??? Because while yes folding repeatedly breaks of slag which is then wasted, folds increase durability due to the way it forces the atoms to displace and bind. While I will agree there were much better sword made in other areas of the globe, the katana when created properly is still an amazing piece of weaponry.

Again you would be wrong on your WW2 fact. The issued swords were Guntos, not all officers carried them, they were authorized to carry their families katanas…we have several in display cabinets across the army…
Actually, it makes perfect sense @BadRed7: the Rear Buttons on the back not only replace the use of the main Face Buttons, but replacing them means I never have to remove my Thumbs from both Sticks. Most importantly, the Right one.
If the Controller is facing you (you’re looking at the Sticks) and I’m playing as the Predator for example, the Top Right Button is Jump and the Bottom Right is Crouch. Top Left is Cloak and Bottom Left is Thermal Vision. I also set the Right Stick Click to Sprint.
So let’s say I Net someone up. Since People always try to scramble from you, I can keep the Camera focused on them and not lose sight of my Target. Even better is that I can keep the Camera spinning while Jumping.
It makes for a much smoother experience.
That’s not what happens. But fine. A finely crafted sword is quite amazing, but its not this god tier weapon that’s been passed around by the common knowledge.
And there was that 72 year gap around the war in which katanas were not allowed to be made due to how badly the quality dropped.

Thats if the pred doesnt manage to break the halberds stick part with his blades. Then billy would just be standing around with his stick in his hand… lol
HOWEVER halberds were typically reinforced with metal rims over the shaft, thus making effective weapons for parrying other weapons like swords.

In the video below, cut to about 4 minutes in where he talks about folding steel as I think that’s relevant to what @FossilHunter13 was saying. At the time, the Japanese only had access to pig iron which has too much carbon to make a sword, which is what lead them to folding it in order to remove those impurities. Folding your blade does result in a stronger sword but they didn’t fold them 1,000 times. A Katana is folded 8-16 times in order to produce at least 1,000 layers, which Shad brings up in the video I provided. The truth is: Katanas are decent at cutting, mediocre at thrusting and far from being close to the best at it’s intended purpose.
As for that Katana cutting a tree video, pretty much any reasonably sharp sword meant for cutting would have done the same.
Yes absolutely agree, but when you fold steel, it strengthens and creates a homogeneous hardness and purity across the blade so it doesn’t have any weaknesses. Newer swords are now folded way more than needed.
I don’t disagree there, as I said, folding steel absolutely strengthens your blade as it also removes impurities. I think the original argument stemmed from human alloys versus the Predator’s alloys and how they wouldn’t be able to cut nets, parry blades or penetrate armour of which I completely agree. However, the Predator doesn’t wear much armour and if we really wanted to be realistic and/or stay true to the source material, ballistic weapons would tear through the Predator’s soft, exposed flesh like a hot knife through butter. The Predator has always been as durable as the particular story he’s in calls for so when you have a game like this with no narrative and four people who can aim their weapons wherever they please, realism and canon pretty much go out the window.

The net gun does exactly what it’s supposed to. It’s not meant to literally be a “net the whole team and win” weapon. You net someone so you can hit them with 0 parry risk

Reading this reminds me of the scene in Predator 2, where Harrigan/Danny Glover unloaded the Shotgun into the City Hunter. While it didn’t technically kill the Predator, it stunned him enough similar to that Iconic Tech Noir Scene from the first Terminator.
Let’s not forget that we’re playing a Videogame either and there are a few rules/tropes that Games follow. I.E. not always realistic.
But thats boooooring make the whip do that or something. I want to style on people with elaborate wallpins and turn them into modern art while they rush to get their teammate out of a SAW trap.
