Ok…now think of this, I remember a topic on here about an idea of a City map.
Now the intro of fire team can be a swat team driving through the streets of LA during the riots of 97 as in the movie. They stop, bust out and start infiltrating a building. While the intro of the pred is walking out of a cistern or spawn on top of a building on the stone guardians roaring.
The Npcs are a mix of the Voodoo gang and Colombian Cartel fighting in the streets.
In the jungle fire team missions we already have to burn drugs, retreave tech ex. The missions are there, make a City map.
It be cool that the pred could bash through the walls in the city map and the fire team can breach doors and walls as well for escape or short cuts.
The map layout can be tall buildings 8 stories high, apartments and small street stores with the iconic slaughter house in the city.
I mean…Illfonic, you have somuch more potential to make this game a huge hit. Listen to the players, brain storm the ideas and interact with the players too. There is somuch more missing that needs to be added from the lore and the movies alone from the series.
Yes in a million years now they’ve never thought of a city map with predator bashing through concrete (??) walls. But lets brainstorm:
How is this supposed to work beyond people saying “just make the predkour on the pipes and streetlamps” as if theres pipes scattered across the map and streetlamps allowing arcing jumps into these 8 story skyscrapers lol.
Trees are only functional now because the branches literally block sniper bullets. Trees provide verticality, cover, and foliage and as much as people bitch about jungle maps in a predator game they also don’t like standing there getting sniped in open areas by people on the warehouse rooftop.
No one remembers the playtesting interview where they were like “haha wow predator sucks without foliage”?
But disregard that and consider for a minute we have a predkour system and a leap that only works in an arc.
Then consider that every open area in this game is absolutely awful for pred - out in the water at backwater, treeless areas of derailed, the damn cave in excavation.
Why would you want an entire map basically being the shacks at backwater except its a street block?
At most you’d get a street and some cars and 2 buildings to walk in. Indoor stairs are impossible with the preds camera angle unless you want him to ride an elevator, and pred just being in a building at all should be a self-explainatory bodyblocking win for the FT.
The true city map experience is standing out in the water at backwater or the warehouse at derailed and disabling the shadows & foliage pretending the objects are cars then just shooting at the predator that’s trying to crouch behind the tiny bits of cover.
Even the cave is awful for the pred and its basically a huge building with a skylight where pred just watches FT do objectives for the most part because he can’t get a good angle without jumping down there, then can’t jump back out without hitting the ceiling. It sucks and there is 0 hope for indoors without crazy reworks and a whole map of new assets.
I get where your coming from but now take this into account. The smartdisc…using it in hallways is devastating. Now again like I said, the pred can bash through walls for escape so there won’t be no body block.
I didn’t mean put shit tons of skyscrapers, just add a few with different hights. Also use the buildings roof top as an evac for the fire team. If the pred is there on the roof there are 5 choices, jump, climb down a fire escape, evac, fight or die.
And to help the pred to climb is using grates, a.c. units and ledges to climb on and off buildings.
Just take common sence and add it in.
Add fire escapes here and there and basic urban cover.
If a fire team has a uav scan, instead of a fly by make a helicopter spot light. It’s obvious, add common sence into the maps design.
They can also make animations of bodies going through dry wall and brick. Also breaching doors and walls as fire team.
Illfonic can do it, if they couldn’t do it they wouldn’t of gotten the rights to predator in the first place.
[Body blocking]…That’s why you implement a new game mechanic for the Predator running threw walls. I’m sure you saw the 2 movie right? The Predator ran though walls like a Juggernaut after he healed from getting his arm cut off.
[Skyscrapers]…Buildings have different shapes and sizes some Bigger then others and vice versa. So it wouldn’t be an issue for him to hop from building to building and at the same time the Predator will always have the high ground like the film.
[NPC & Fire Team]…Instead of a fire team it will be a SWAT team being sent in or the F.B.I which clearly would be a cover up because they are O.W.L.F just like the Film and as far as the NPC it would be the 2 gangs the Mexicans and the Jamaicans or whatever they were in the film and make it a war zone where the Bots are fighting each other as well as the Fire Team making it difficult for the fire team to complete missions
[Objectives]…Destroying there drug operations, free the hostages to find out there already dead, kill the gang leaders etc.
[Map]… Close off a portion of the city use cop cars or the gangs vehicles to set roadblocks. Have cars on fire, fire hydrants destroyed adding detail to the map, light poles for the predator to climb on, ladders, drainage pipes etc,… alleyways that the fire team can utilize as short cuts to get to there objective and sometimes taking a short cut will lead you to a dead end so you would have to double back but they’ll be times where you can use a dumpster to get over, have buildings the Fire team would have to go in and out to complete objective, (subway stations!) that the fire team would have to go threw in order to reach the other side to complete an objective / mission Because of the blockades but the power is out because the power box was destroyed or something so then the fire team would have to go threw the tunnel using flash lights because it’s pitch black with very little visual light / battery making it easier for the Predator to pick off the fire team 1 by 1. All you would have to do is Implement a game mechanic like Star Wars: Battlefront 2’s Ewok hunt. I have so many ideas and that’s just a few things off the top of my head…It can be done all it takes is a little imagination and anything is Possible! But not when you have people that say it can’t be done or it shouldn’t be done.
Lol the skyscrapers are designed like staircases to accomodate preds arcing leap then? And does the FT just spend the whole match walking up stairs and waiting for the subway train or are these like 3 interactable buildings in the entire map?
You guys should draw a picture of your minimap that would be interesting.
They got the rights to make a little indie game and turn a profit not this cryengine busting down walls destructible environments and physics madness all to just to try to accomodate and balance 1 new map.
Yeah with an endless budget and years of reworking existing systems. Might as well make PH:G 2 at that point. The act of actually designing the videogame still has to adhere real world logic unfortunately.
It would be really entertaining to see how much it shits up the balance but I was talking about OP & the predator crashing through skyscraper walls like the koolaid man to try to compensate for indoors being a death sentence lol. That’s not even a map that’s a full-on recode, destructible environment madness thats never going to happen.
Hitting a branch is aggravating imagine trying to make leap work into a window then you’re just bodyblocked and parried to death inside lmao. I would settle for literally anything getting an overhaul over illfonic buying a bunch of street assets and trying to cobble them together into a map when they can’t even make a cave work balance-wise.
Yes, for a predator, caves can become a really unpleasant trap and can cause very high damage or even death. If this was somehow fine-tuned over time so that I would not say that the predator had complete freedom as in open space, but he would have some chance to escape or fortify for defense.
The idea with the city I think it should have come much earlier than today. This city map could come with the arrival of City Hunter 97 but it did not. I don’t know if illfonic would make any work on this map.
As if a predator jumped on windows or on the edges of buildings, I don’t think it’s completely impossible. It is to use the existing technique, which he himself uses from the jungle. Jumping and snapping to trees this could also be used in an urban environment.
Make some interesting passages straight from the movie PREDATOR 2 + maybe add the character of DLC Harrigan with his assault shotgun and desert eagle: the beginning of chaos on the street entrance to the building, plus a cut from the subway and the final of the scene from the environment where the beef is cooling and finally make a passage with the spaceship where the final collision occurs.
Like I don’t think it’s not a bad idea after all, this game should be based on the movie environment + the current legend of predators. If these things come together, you can have much more out of the game than you have now in the current state of the game. It still works with some missing things, even unfinished. I know that this cannot be done and implemented from day to day. But if you focus on at least some interesting and tempting things that all PREDATOR fans and those who would not know this game will be interested in, then you can make this game a much bigger title than before.
A way to get a city to work would be a small city where trees and elevation is still possible. It doesn’t have to be a real city either. It can literally just be something existing out in Val Verde or whatever location the game is set in. Predkour is a lot more complicated than just running on some pipes since branches are a big reason Predator doesn’t get immediately noticed, is a tell to tip off fireteam, and can block bullets to protect Predator.
A city or town map doesn’t have to look like LA or New York. Something like Gunnison would do just fine or even some other locations where you can play with elevation. In Virginia there’s a whole town that’s essentially built down a mountain so why not play with something like that? It’s not uncommon in the area for rocks to fall and people fucking die (not kidding) so that could be done as a gameplay element. Play with the elevation where Predator/Fireteam could trigger falling rocks and in some places create alternate routes to objective. If we get a new map that’s outside the realm of a jungle then like Excavation where the elevation can trick FT/Pred, turn the elevation into a gameplay element where it can screw either team by killing teammates or blocking paths.
Makes the most sense. All the skyscraper stuff and indoor areas is asking too much. Game isn’t built for it.
Though I was surprised when they stated they only wanted to do earth locations. A jungle planet is easier to implement than a town by miles (a couple new trees, foliage, small camps) and they won’t even do that which makes me think we’ll see the same theme of 3 compounds in a jungle forever.
The game preserve might be a bit hard since they’d have to change the way Fireteam is deployed, how it gets its missions, and how they escape. They also don’t have the highest budget meaning we would have a small amount of missions. We wouldn’t be recovering artifacts and fighting Stargazer or cartels would need new models for the various enemies as well as a new “pig” so Predator can heal without med.
It’s just a bit more work than another jungle on Earth especially since the game preserve was just a jungle with a few notable exceptions. You could still get something like the rig Noland was held up in by making an interior of a Predator ship or a Stargazer lab.
Ok, now I’m getting to know more about what you’re trying to say.
Anyways, the pred smashing through walls idea is this. We know predcor indications now the wall s that are destructible will be high lighted red. And for the fire team it will have a breach charge.
Now the subway idea I’m thinking is this way, going through the pitch black tunnles would be very suspenseful and anticipating his arrival from the dark. The flashlight is a great idea because if they bring in night maps that would be a perfect set up.
