It’s very obvious that you and I will never see eye to eye on really anything, and arguing has gotten us no where due to the fact that you and I are very clearly too stubborn to change our views.

Basically it just needs to learn to generate new AI scripts. After that, things will just snowball, because essentially it’s learning how to improve itself. Once read an interesting theory in a book at the airport, said something along the lines of machines may very well be the ‘something greater’ Neitsche said man was a bridge toward. It would be ‘beyond good and evil’ and all that because it would likely develop its own understanding of morals, values and ethics entirely seperate to our own, and we can’t presume to know what it will do because we’re just projecting our own fucked-up idea of right and wrong and our pathological need for conflict onto it.

But yeah definitely happening in our lifetimes, maybe even before I catch dementia and kill myself.

Yeah, but for an efficient consciousness we’d need quantum computing, lest it take thousands of years to form a single thought. Which we already have.
Parallel processing would be necessary period for it to consider multiple things simultaneously, which is to our current knowledge a requirement for conscious thought. Which also would make it more efficient and quicker if it is not. And we already have that too.

Some dystopian sci fi stuff we’ll all live to see. Get ready for some I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream type shit. Although I think if we happened to be in AM’s chosen group, it’d be dismantled in a matter of days to weeks.
