Parry Counter Play

So out of curiosity, what are your tactics for countering parry? Not interested in things like “use the bow/netgun/caster.” We know this. Specifically, what do you do, once you’ve decided to engage in a melee attack, to avoid getting parried into oblivion. Things like a specific combo you use, or timing mix ups, etc.

Please don’t comment with “you can’t” or “parry sucks.” We know this as well. Looking for actual proven tactics that shut down parry in a melee contest.

Very good man. Asking for advice instead of complaining or asking for mechanic changes.

The main thing is to keep moving around. Even if a FT member is standing still, do not confine yourself to that circle around him. Jump in and out of sight. Fake him out. Step to his sides. Ir is also easy to miss time parry a max range combistick swipe. Also do not always do a full combo, 1 or 2 hits and move around again.

Throw spear after a hit or two. That one I see ppl do. As for me i change up my timing and jump to hit from different angles, move sporadically.

I tend to try and power through it though, if it’s not a group.

May not look like much, but moving in circles or half circles makes them think you’re probs gonna flee.
Idk man pretend it’s dark souls lmao.

Counter parry tips:

  1. Use Netgun
  2. Attack from behind (cant been parry)
  3. Attack with different intervals (no spam for hardly predictable, f.e. 1 then after 2 sec 1 more and then 3 in row)
  4. Attack after knife animation
  5. Suddenly attack (f.e. from cloak or after leap, for parry need be prepared)
  6. Switch to ranged.

Pause for maybe a second. Literally, think a psych out.

Everyone has the right idea, use your third person to advantage, go around them.

Leaping mid fight can also work to make their heads spin.

Most importantly, bail if it gets too dicey. Especially if they’re close to each other.

If you effed up, oh well, leave, try again.

But spamming back will only get you killed.

I run towards and away from the target erratically. When I see them swing their knife I melee. Never finish a combo. Never.

But uncharged bow up close is probably the best tactic.

I’ve been having a lot of success with the Elder Sword. I never attack anyone head on, or run at them. I like to drop right next to or behind them and start attacking. Most of them just panic and try to run, if so I’ll just keep attacking, otherwise yeah I circle or zig zag to attack from the sides, or I’ll leap behind and get another hit. I don’t always go for a down, unless I’ve already hit them a few times and know I’m close. If I really want to push it I’ll try to pause or mix up intervals. Even a couple solid hits I feel good about. Then I’ll leap to a vantage point for a few bow or caster shots if they aren’t already looking at me.

I usually don’t have much trouble with parry, except certain insane fireteams that literally can’t be attacked, or snuck up on, and just snipe you from across the map. But I still don’t see why the fireteam has to be able to parry more than once or twice in a row. If you’re far enough from the team that you need more than one or two parries to stay up, I feel like your playing the game wrong.

Bear traps my friend. Bear traps and trapper perk.

Nice to see another sword user. I like how you describe your gameplay. I use sword in my big game hunter build which is tracking and bow oriented. Most other builds are running spear so its nice to mix it up even if the weapons arent wildly different.

Today i went to melee someone in a net and another FT member parried my attack at an angle for him. It blew my mind i leapt away immediately to cry behind a tree.

I myself like to hop and tap them, hop and tap moving in a kind of circle around then to make it difficult to time their parry or get a knife in. However I do like to use methods 2-4 from DK 12’s post as well. It honestly isn’t terribly hard to avoid once you start mixing it up but it can be frustrating for new players.

As @Fire said 2 hit combo and then a spear throw is a very solid counter to it…I like to do it often, tho its most effective when I dont miss :P or net gunning straight up

Or u know this too…(wait for it, the guy with a knife coming at me all cocky)
(I forwarded it to the part, click the center play icon, not the title at the top)

Throw combistick. Net. Same old same old

Slam behind them if they’re on PC and look like they’re going to do some counterstrike bhop shit

Run around them and stab them in the kidney if ps4 since it’s physically impossible for them to turn 180 fast enough.
