Like, she was trying to criticize Ian Kershaw without even reading his books obviously. Like, right-wing weirdos are the most embarrassing lot. Just like liberals they read nothing and know nothing and just parrot takes they heard on their favourite podcast where the guests are crypto-fascists or smth.
Once again, this is not a genuine conversation, it’s just another instance of an arrogant bafoon trying to “debate” the left and win with facts and logic (of which they know nothing) in the marketplace of ideas.
Im afraid to find out 😁
You have to read my hundreds of pages of footnotes before making fun of my extremely nuanced ideology nooooo
Like, at least tankies and other authoritarian leftists have actually read Lenin. They obviously don’t possess cognitive skills that are high enough to actually understand it, but at least they read the books. Right-wingers only know the names of the books their pundits reference on their podcasts.
But seriously who has time. Yous have exposure to different information. You’re not going to read each other’s book recommendations, so you’ll Google them, find something discrediting and post it. Tough to have a debate if information does not cross over and you already have a bit of a dislike for each other.
You have to find some kind of an initial agreement to even be receptive to other tangential information. Otherwise itll turn into trolling or anger bout or whatnot. That’s why if there is not middle ground, its kind of a fools errand to hope to change minds. At best it’s exposure, which is still a positive.
People that fancy themselves “academics” and don’t work.
So authoritarian leftists or grifters.
If you can’t make your point without citing hundreds of pages it’s either autism or you’re making money off of people with nothing to do.
Then these types of intellectual conversations belong in those circles.
I usually read a review from a peer-reviewed journal about any book I intend on reading. Including ones I was recommended by colleagues.
They’re all leftists so it’s a semantic circlejerk
That’s a good way to approach it. I usually read the review on the back cover, which is obviously biased but it still tells me a bit about writing style and content 😁
Still there’s a chance for a little drift of convictions. Maybe they play devil’s advocate at times
ohhh. ok, cool beans
This is also why they think people they disagree with shouldn’t have a platform.
Full circle.
Intellectual conversations belong everywhere. But you have to be genuinely interested in having one, not being an anti-intellectual right-wing weirdo with conspiracy theories leading their worldview. Because obviously people who understand that there are professionals who know better than they will be anti-intellectual freaks who’ll act the same way as anti-vaccers: spreading doubt and misinformation that is incredibly easily debunked (like with the Wikipedia oopsie), but has appeal among fellow minded goblins.
Use sci-hub, it has a ton of papers uploaded for free. Libgen and sci-hub are the two best friends of any scientist in the field of humanities.
Agreed. Sometimes its a tough sell these days. You have to be prepared and invested into it. Random conversations on forums is an iffy setting.
Gonna chill for a bit. Stay safe forumers
lol lmao, professionals in the field of having opinions
and thats why MY COMMUNISM will work and NO ONE ELSES
I like to hear people talk about where they think they’d stand in their proverbial utopia. Stalin knew better to debate that though and just lined people up against a wall.
when Finessology with a joker anime avatar walks into the room and talks about communism and Jaya_Soames looses his job(voluntary) as a streamer and AFTE moderator complains all day as kamshat Finnish-English accent with her/him about the topic. Kind of makes you doubt the validity of intellectual conversation in the PHG forums (I always had).
