So both Predator Hunting Grounds and Aliens Fireteam both got an update, and the quality and quantity difference of the content provided in each is astounding. Aliens:FT has a much lower player base I believe but it’s updates are much higher in quality. They are objectively improving and expanding the game while PHG is just throwing out more bait to hook people for money, not to mention, the aliens update is ALL FREE. No cash grab for skin. Honestly makes me further disappointed on the lack of care they have for this game.
PHG v AFT
Both games launched with glaring issues , but the subject is pretty simple when comparing both games . AFE added more in a fraction of the time PHG did , they at least fix issues in a fraction of the time PHG did and either way, both games need alot more tlc .
From a dev standpoint, illfonic got hammered by cold iron , hands down.
This is partly true , but most purchasable cosmetics are on par with PHG , AFE added 2 free classes , but so did PHG . Illfonics “classes” are mostly reskins though and cold iron actually added a class that actually had its own mechanics . It comes down to the amount of time , quality and quantity.
Illfonic are 0-1 to cold iron , which is embarrassing when you consider the scale of games and the years of “experience” between the two.
Aliens Fireteam Elite is far better game. Problem is there was no crossplay at the launch, and still there isn’t, so playerbase is very small or dead. But, if you really want to complete and unlock everything (PC) you can always use trainers/cheats and do everything you want even with bots.
I even mentioned yesterday while I was streaming AFT, the quality on their update is noticeable higher.
No new maps plus no new missions = no maidens
I’m sure its cold irons first game? They obviously want to build a decent reputation and work hard . Every developer should treat every game like its their first and not just be sure that if people buy it then thats all that matters
Luke: No, that’s not true… that’s impossible!!!
It’s very apparent. Even like just adding multiple load outs per class is a small but good thing.
Yeah I wish AFT had more missions n stuff, then it would be so much more replay-able. Would be awesome with NeoMorphs and even engineers etc.
Both of them dropped Aurora skins.
AvP confirmed?!
The thing about these two games for me is, that Aliens Fireteam Elite is much, much better made and is actually a great game that you can see the effort that went into it, which is why I’m going to start playing it more often now. I had completed the campaign and maxed out all weapons but when I got my PS5 it reset all my progress so haven’t been as motivated to play it. It can be pretty fun annihilating Aliens.
Meanwhile Predator Hunting Grounds is a buggy mess that was originally a game with a lot of effort put into it (Dutch 2025, Samurai, City Hunter DLCs at very least). They even gave the City Hunter his movie roar, and then corrected it and now he has TWO of his MOVIE ROARS, and he looks very movie accurate, compared to the modern Illfonic work ethic of slapping some big names (Wolf, Mr Black etc.) In the game with an already used Pred model, and the DEFAULT ROAR. Not movie accurate, no work put in. Not to mention an unbalanced game in which at high level, the Predator genuinely cannot afford to make more than 0-2 minor mistakes all match, otherwise he is as dead as a poor noob who opened a door to be greeted by a claymore in COD. The one thing that Predator Hunting Grounds does have, however, is that it is incredibly addictive, and fun to play. Especially as you can play as the Predator and I do prefer the Predator franchise to the Alien one. Sadly you cannot play as the Xenomorphs in Aliens Fireteam Elite, which was a big letdown for me, and many other people I’m sure.
In conclusion…
State of the game e.g bugs, quality
Aliens Fireteam Elite - 8/10
Predator Hunting Grounds - 3/10
Amount of fun
Aliens Fireteam Elite - 7/10
Predator Hunting Grounds - 9/10 (but only most of the time - it is simply a torture game at the point you have to face multiple Field Medics, Dantes and Recon Trackers)
Updates
Aliens Fireteam Elite - 9/10
Predator Hunting Grounds - 2/10 (especially for Wolf and if this Emissary update is the anniversary update, then a 1/10)
Customisation for characters/weapons etc
Aliens Fireteam Elite - 8/10 overall, 10/10 for guns
Predator Hunting Grounds - 9 and a half /10 for characters as there is still a great variety but much to be added, and 7/10 for weapons as it is just shaders and quite plain compared to AFE
Overall, Aliens Fireteam Elite is way better made and better quality, but Predator Hunting Grounds just keeps making you come back to it.
Equally trash, 0 ambition studios used as portfolio stepping stones like those companies that used to make cheap movie tie-in games. Both will eventually be liquidated.
Illfonic has the more original idea and make PvP games because they’re smart enough to realize those can retain a playerbase because people don’t want to exclusively shoot at bad AI for 500 hours.
Launch game, lose 70% of playerbase in like 60 days because normal people don’t want to pointlessly grind out cards after seeing all there is to see playing generic third person horde shooter number 994859 with an alien skin. Then no one can find a match in your coop game. Same issue back4blood has.
The only thing that keeps horde shooters going is mod support. But uh oh they can’t charge for mods. Recently there’s been a push for overpriced paid maps again in all these to put money back into development, but you see how that’s working out. Tf puts $20 into a game with ~500 players and goes “hey maybe this is fun now.”
Disgruntled?
Cyberpunk is dead famalam. You and your unfinished games.
I’d rather play aliens colonial Marines than AFTE
