Plasma Caster, high risk, less reward

Since the caster nerf I’ve still been trying to use it. Sometimes its good harass, but mostly it gives away my position and leads to more BIG FUCK YOU GREEN ARROW spotting. The old damage made the risk much more rewarding and exciting, but now not so much.

it is definitely disappointing. scouts see the laser immediately stand still so they can line up a mask shot, knowing there is no danger

Yeah but it is how it is preds will find another strategy and odds are that will get nerfed too. I hope that’s not the case but idk

See I understand this… but that isn’t entirely true that it was or even is a high risk weapon. All I had to do as a Predator main was charged up my shit where they couldn’t see the laser then pop out and pop somebody to straight down him. Never had a chance to even spot me. Then another shot and he’s toast. I understand it would be nice to have that extra punch and I don’t know what side of this I stand on but there’s two sides to this that are perfectly fair.

Against good FT, they would see where you shot from and be ready to pop your mask the next time you came out from behind cover.

That said, I would be happy if they made the scout have a bonus that would allow for a full charge down like before patch. Would emphasize the ranged aspect and give good reasons to pick him.

Ok. I have played against good Fireteams. And done the same thing even as they knew what I was doing and were prepared for it. And you pop one shot, then bounce and come at them from another angle. The argument you are making there is more tactics and skill than mechanical. And if they are in a building doing an objective I can use my third person at a door to see where they are, charge my shot and then blast and there isn’t a whole lot of counter play unless they know exactly where I am at all times. And then with motion detectors I can keep even better track of them. The only viable direct counter to that is bunny hopping and nobody wants that.

It does also basically nullify any health or damage perks they are running. I have one shot downed supports with it before the patch and the perks made no real difference.

However perhaps an alternative would be allowing the Scout to charge it quicker or have less drain on their energy for fully charged shots, like a specific trait they have like Fireteam classes have. I would even be in favor of having it have a more potent blast radius as well. I don’t hate the idea of it being a one sho down but I don’t think it is necessary. But given it does drain half your energy bar to fire it that does pose an argument for it being a one shot down.

My point is that this is a more nuanced issue than people are making it out to be.

Yeah, Crennos, I don’t know that I’m making an argument over this, just musing. It has certainly encouraged me to use bow more, since I can be much sneakier with it.

Fair enough. And I am not sure I am all for or against the nerf myself but at the very least the ability to just fire it off and do some kind of damage beyond a strongly worded tweet shouldn’t be understated I think.
