Plasma caster

Since they nerfed the plasma caster, does the down range perk make a full charge an instant knock or is it still insignificant?

Nope they wrecked it its legit useless, unless you want to get destroyed while they side step and laugh at your mashmellow gun

We’re still trying to find that out. Honestly it should be that way. I don’t mind taking up a slot so I can one shot down people. One shot down should’ve been fine anyway, it’s one shot kill that needs to be avoided to keep things balanced.

U would think if they made it worse, u would be able to use the perk to make it good again

You would think that… i wonder if pred perks even work ive heard they dont

I still wreck house with it. I can tell that it does take a little more finesse and patience than in used to but not by much. I honestly don’t know why everyone is dumping on it so hard.

To the OP: I haven’t tried stacking Down Range back on it. Next time I think to, I’ll try it and see if it gives potential one-shots. I doubt it, though, since the buff seems to be pretty minor and some folks are reporting that it doesn’t even work at times.

The caster was useless before, now its even MORE useless. I started enjoying predator more once I figured out what was good and what was not. This included stopping using the plasma caster altogether.

I played all day and the plasma cannon is broke dogshit now

Different strokes, for sure. I was having a pretty pathetic time with Predator until I DISCOVERED the PC and it almost single-handedly turn me into a murder machine. Pre-nerf, I have to admit it did feel kinda cheesy at times. Post-nerf, it feels a little more fair…but it’s still the best pain-bringer I’ve used.

Absolutely not. It was basically a shoulder-mounted nuke. I was worried about all the buzz around the nerf but I’ve found it’s not anywhere near as bad as the complaints I’ve heard.

Again, I play on PC, so maybe I have the advantage of good aim but…yeah, Caster is still white, hot death.

Treat caster as an aoe splash attack, with direct hits being a bonus.

I do fine with it, constantly harassing from short range as a scout. Using bow for direct hits to chip the hp off (love the constant “medpack out!” callouts).

You people seem like it was 1 hit down or bust type of deal, mean while I put 2-3 arrows into each FT followed by few AOE with caster and throw in a Leap slam here and there and a cherry on the cake, combistick throw (I treat is as a dumb fire smart disk) … All that as a scout, I literally run through middle of their team to collect arrows or put a single slash into someone with a melee and leap away.

Caster helps a lot with that, due to already mentioned big aoe with a decent dmg.

Yes it was. Not because of its damage, but because it was (and still is) nigh-impossible to hit savvy players with it. The projectile is just too slow and smart people will just keep shuffling, zigzagging and strafing all the time.

Nowadays I place my predator more around melee and occasional webcast (I play hunter, havent unlocked zerker yet), stealth and maneuvering, hitting where they don’t expect. As I’m writing this, just got my third team wipe since I started playing (incidentally all have been full playstation teams)

The issue with this is: you are a clear target while you are doing it, and I’m used to PC players who can actually hit what they are aiming and aim fast (Im a PC player myself). This type of tactic is just not worth the damage you take in return in my opinion.

Now I don’t really NEED plasma caster to play, but it is kinda lame if its totally useless. Maybe its a console weapon I dunno.

Shoulder-mounted super-soaker in my experience…

For console it WAS the best weapon to use

People can walk off plasma casters to face didnt you know?

I can understand reducing the splash damage and/or radius, but taking away the full charge OHKO has removed the Predator’s single best opener option. I would stalk the Fireteam and wait for them to all be focused on something away from me (usually the AI but they’re gone now too, yay) and pick one off, then leap in with the net gun and take advantage of the confusion to take a trophy or two before backing off. It also worked against teams that always stuck together and covered each other, which I now really struggle to deal with without a reliable way to take a gun or two off the field without wading through a wall of bullets to do so.
