Having had some time to mull the movie over after watching it, its not good and my opinion has soured as well. The movie everyone wanted would have just been the hunt for the Kalisk. Everything else just makes the movie more complicated, and Dan just doesn’t have it in him to handle such complexities.
Its obvious corporate had its hand in the plot, being a standard pixar movie about found family, and either Dan just didn’t try when he couldn’t get his idea, or this was his attempt and it fell flat.
Things like how attuned Dek became to nature, and how somehow he gained the skills required to fight his father in a duel that he never practiced on the planet. I don’t like the energy sword as a concept: it’s both too advanced compared to everything else, and a poor choice when it comes to hunting. And why the hell did that acid lizard sacrifice itself? Because it was fed a few seeds its life is now meaningless? And remarkably well trained for a couple hours of work.
Thia was the worst, and her constant yapping really soured my opinion of the movie, and objectively her presence slowed down the movie and should have caused far more problems than the movie allowed.
Bud was made marketable. I heard girls aww when you first got a good look at it.
I could go on and on about the movie, but it’ll just be a waste of my time to argue with consumers. I’ll find a video you can watch on your own that I align with the most to save everyone’s time.
Predator: Badlands
Yea that was my feeling as well. I get some ppl may like it and to be fair, i feel the same how i did with alien earth where some parts would make for a good scifi show on its own with out alien and alien was just used for name sake, the same is done witb budlands where some stuff would be an ok scifi adventure movie BUT NOT IN A PREDATOR MOVIE. I cant say foraure but i feel many ppl like it for the shiny objects which are the predator hunting aliens on another planet aspect but the rest of the movie was cheeks.
Someone had asked about the movie and i couldnt help but say it was a bait and switch because the trailers literally showed 80% of those predator vs alien species scenes and the rest is just disney doin what disney does. The franchise itself is being transformed to a female franchise rather than what made it what it is/was for all these years, sure some may say “oh you hate women” lol but its just forced and done deliberately. When done right it can work like in AVP 1, it didnt feel so contrived and deliberately done for what ever reason and i dont needa bring up ripley and sarah conner so those lame ass attempts to cut off criticism dont mean shit if the movie is trash because if it was good there wouldnt be controversy. Anyway i thougjt that video i just shared helped point out the MANY bad tgings about the movie and i agree with most things said especially the part part about dan ONLY having good ideas which im sure hes seen around avp forums so dont know if id give him the credit as all these ideas have been around a long time, but also agreed this franchise needs yo be taken away from dan and preferably disney as well but they werwnt gonna give it up easily as they trued playing the legal game with the thomas bros
I can see how people can like it. My father enjoyed it, because of that found family motif, regardless of how well its done. I never try to change someone’s feelings on something, just their view on quality. Call me an optimist, but there was a script out there that gave a Predator an android side piece and immortal hunting dog and made it to rival the original. This wasn’t it. There is no idea that can’t work, but some ideas require more skill to craft into a good story. Prey was a simpler movie, and probably because it was less complex, it was better. Less to fuck up. And as long as you nail those superficial elements (beautiful set pieces, predator stabbing things, etc.) people will be placated. But I stand by my statement in Alien Earth. Its the shiny new thing, so its good. Give it a month or two and it’ll be forgotten.
I never saw any trailers for it. I knew I would be seeing it, so I went in as blind as I could. But you’re right, sometimes they prioritized (and I hate saying this) ‘woke’ stuff over good writing, like Thia’s legs racking up a body count. She doesn’t need to be an unstoppable badass, let her play a character (preferably a better one). AVP had some good scenes, and at least gave that girl boss some depth at a time we weren’t oversaturated with even shallower versions. And I also agree, there would be far less arguments online if this was actually good, only the die hardest anti wokes would complain about women, but its not good, and thus there are arguments and the woman card thrown around. Disney has been destroying everything it touches. It used up Marvel, took and pissed on star wars, and now A/P is being insulted even further than it was before.

Prey felt like it was only 30 minutes long, just b/c of how much I was enjoying it. Possibly one of the best predator movies out there.
