Allow me to set the requirements for my tier list first. Also keep in mind this is subjective. So don’t lose your minds.
But, that being said. I’ll be rating this off how fun the gameplay is, and how well it sets the atmosphere of the franchise (meaning do you feel like your playing a predator game, or just a game with a predator skin. Example being like fortnite would be D tier cause it’s just a predator skin and doesn’t really make you feel like you’re playing a predator game.)
S tier- Predator concrete Jungle.
A simple reason why this game takes the cake is the open environment, skins from the films, and some extended universe skins that still look and make you feel like a predator. No silly Viking dudes. Of course this games story has some pretty wack shit and can be lame, but for the overall experience. This game had all the gadgets and violence you could want.
A tier- AVP Sega games
AVP 2010 is my personal favorite but I still can’t with good conscious say it’s better than Concrete jungle purely as a predator game. But the first person perspective, small but fun variety of tools, and simple but effective melee combat, that wasn’t literally on rails combos… was fun. All that, plus an actual, not completely wack storyline that served its purpose, made An awesome, underrated game.
B tier- this will be controversial. But Ghost Recons predator mission. This might actually be the best take ever, on playing the human side of the predator story. The music is perfect. The atmosphere is set amazingly with the NPC dialogue and chatter between your team, tracking the blood on the leaves, finding the bodies in the trees, the reaction of your team members, hearing the predator chirping in the distance. Your first play through is actually very scary, obviously once you’ve played you know you only get attacked in the one section. Which is why it’s B tier. But for just one mission. It’s extremely well done. And when your character says, If it bleeds, and the teammate responds, we can kill it. You’re like, ok this is what we have needed from a fuckin predator game. Then finally he’s actually quite difficult to kill. I’m sure most people’s complaints will be he basically uses all range attacks, but again. That’s why it’s B tier. As far as atmosphere and suspense goes, Ghost recon strangely did it best.
C tier- here we have AVP extinction and Predator Hunting Grounds.
Extinction is a Mobile game where you can customize your weapons, armor, and even set up custom hunts and decide how many, and which type of enemies you want on the map. This is something I think all predator games need. Honestly what puts extinction in C tier is just the limitations of a Mobile game. It’s fun. It’s something to pass time, but it’s on your phone. A good selection of weapons, armor,
Enemies, and a decent story.
As for Hunting Grounds. I’m sure this will upset some people that it’s here, and not above the Mobile game. But I’ll explain why.
I’ll start with the positives that keep this game out of D tier. The Predkour system is great. Absolutely love it and it’s a stand out feature. That being said the collision when leaping is awful, so it’s a really good thing the predkour is so good or moving at all in this game would be a nightmare. Openish environments, and some decent predator customization. Thought there are issues with that still that I will get into.
The issues with the game, are a complete lack of depth. Every match seems to play out on he same way. You use range to stop good players, or melee to death bad players. The “classes” start to seem kinda lack luster after long periods of play, when you realize they don’t actually change that much about how you play the game. The customization is all very flamboyant, and nothing screams predator. A lot of it is too colorful and seems more power ranger than predator. Also the issue of iconic characters who are included in other games, such as city hunter, wolf, and Celtic, are either behind a pay wall, or entirely non existent. Add that with the very very clunky experience on the human play side of this game, and it just falls behind as far as predator games go. In my opinion. All in all a fun game. Not compete shit! Just not what it could have been, an absolute S tier masterpiece, with some polish and inclusion of all our beloved characters
