Predator specializations, underperformers

I think it’s safe to say that predator specializations have been a huge success in balancing Fireteam Vs Predator matchups. However, some are much better than others.
Effective list:

  • Fervent
  • Stalker
  • Tactician
  • Analytic
  • Ghost
  • Assassin
  • Wrathful?
  • Vicious
  • Savage
  • Disciplined
  • Tracker

The following specializations either don’t have enough of a modifier or don’t really have a significant impact on gameplay.

  • Warrior
  • Brute
  • Focused
  • Enraged
  • Wrathful?

Warrior
Even without parries, it’s rough go as a melee focused predator. Warrior’s 20% reduction of an already low parry stun time, doesn’t seem to matter much. My recommendation, allow the parry to function normally, but only effects the melee and damage, while having zero stun effect on movement.

Brute
50% melee damage through parries seems great on the surface, but, really, the worst part parry is the stun. My recommendation, full melee damage through parries.

Focused
This needs a rework. You can only use it with target isolation. That’s very limiting. Then the buffs make little sense. Speed and Energy Regeneration. These are conflicting buffs. My recommendation, rework by replacing current buffs with increased leap distance and increased duration of target isolation.

Enraged
It’s too weak at low health, because, at that point, it can only really be useful as an escape. My recommendation, make it activate for a duration after taking any damage from the Fireteam.

I’m on the fence about Wrathful.

Please discuss or add your own lists. Which predator specializations do you prefer and why?

I have personally avoided a ton of the ineffective specializations mentioned above and completely agree with you’re findings and suggestions.

Some leave a ton left to be desired, while some I even questioned if the Specialization changed anything at all.

Why can’t they get a solid, dedicated base of players (a mixture to provide a good cross section of players) to play Test shit.

They literally must play test this game or changes for MAX, a day, and give it the good to go label.

Hoping for some in depth thought and implementation for future content.

True. I’m sure there would be plenty of volunteers for a “testing environment.” Also, it would serve a secondary function to discover bugs and exploits.

In fairness, Rushdown, Overwatch, Liberator, Reckless, and Fanatic are just as questionable when broken down on the otherside for FT

This one I disagree. It’s great for assault snipers and Dutch ‘87. The others are terrible for sure.

But let’s keep the focus on predator specializations. 😁

It’s the same as Wrathful though usage wise. Yeah great boost but it’s niche.

That’s what Enraged is for, bro, escaping. Least that’s how I use it. I mean really, what are you gonna do with 10% health left? Melee? Uh uh. Range? Better hope they don’t see you. Nah man, I use it to cloak and gtfo

I gladly support this guy on Patreon. Although it’s only $5 a month, it’s all I can afford with my PS+ and XBGP.

I find much more utility out of Vicious or Wrathful on Viking. Vicious will help secure kills and Wrathful can help secure knockdowns. Compared to these, Enraged is a joke.

The game is more fun when the predator is aggressive, so I would hope that the specializations would encourage aggressiveness rather than evasiveness.

Get rid of all dmg and hp buffs. The game would be way better

Although I agree with you in principle, I think that conditional health and damage buffs can add a lot of strategy and improve the balance of asymmetry. I think it would be interesting if perks like Thick Skin and Inpenetrable functioned like the Biomask. They would be a limited health Armor, unaffected by health restoration, and, once broken, would be unreplenishable.

Downrange, Fearless, and Yautja’s Bane don’t really need to exist.

I was hoping for as example: Huge dmg buff (~30-40%) + VFX that shows me under this buff

One more year. They’ve dug themselves out of a massive hole, but if you can’t get things right after two years of updates and patches, it just won’t be worth anyone’s time.
