Really? I thought the original did the best job of building tension and suspense. The stalking cut shots up until Hawkins is killed, the sudden brutal wtfness of Hawkins and Blaine going down. The taunting of Dillion. There’s a LOT more going into the build up of those moments that give it a horror feel. At it’s core yeah I guess it’s an action film, but it’s pacing is definitely horror.

The effects are definitely worse. You can literally see mr blacks latex masks like peel back multiple times lol. The movies don’t hold up on second viewing cause there’s 0 tension and lots of action but meaningless action. Them mowing down… dogs? Stuff like that. Every action sequence in the original was there for a reason not just to ooo and ahhh you.
