As broad as this statement is, I think I get the point.
As far as the creature alone I think they’re bad ass. Yeah they’re simpler then other sci-fi franchises nowadays like Halo. Star Wars, Doom, etc. but for a character developed on the fly in the 80’s they’re pretty damn cool.
Being a technologically advanced race with a culture that’s very primitive and values the thrill of the hunt, taking trophies to prove themselves, and fighting to the death no matter what is awesome. Also the boogeyman-like reputation they have for always visiting different worlds mostly unseen and taking trophies is one of the coolest things about em, and how in the franchise they’re like an urban legend as they’ve been doing it for thousands of years.
However again if we were to square them up against nearly any other sci-fi character out there…yeah the predator would most likely get fuckin destroyed unfortunately…
Because in their own franchise they are meant to be the biggest fish in the ocean, but their ocean as a whole is pretty small as they’ve only ever have gone up against humans and now Wildlife like a bear. They were originally designed to show that even the best of human kind such as an elite spec ops team with Mr. Olympia as their leader is but cannon fodder compared to this hunter, but weren’t designed in mind to be fighting other super powered characters like Jedi from star wars. They aren’t like characters from DBZ where they always have a bullshit reason to constantly be gaining power and can destroy whole planets with a sneeze…they were originally simply made to kick our asses and thats it…
I like to think that if film directors, comic writers, and/or game developers were to take the Predators a step further and show us what they’re society is truly capable of, such as showing their military that isn’t bound by the honor code and perhaps just rules of Engagement and have access to possibly planet breaking technology, that we could eventually see Predators stand a chance against other franchises in a versus situation. If they did it in just the right way and opened up the mythos to show us the capabilities of their technology, physical prowess, etc. instead of always showing us the more or less basic hunter under hunting restrictions then maybe the Predator could be taken more seriously when squaring up against guys like Boba Fett🙄.
But as it sits right now with our original hunters…unfortunately yeah, they’re more and less basic and don’t stand a chance against almost every other sci-fi character.
