Prey predator design

What do you think about the design change of the predator in prey. From what we’ve seen of course.

Ill start by saying the OG predator design (JH, CH, Wolf, Celtic, etc.) Is what makes the predator iconic. We’ve had 3 new designs including prey and only 1 so far was semi decent (super preds 2010) while the 2018 was trash and as for prey Im cautiously optimistic, but so far i can’t help but be annoyed that they always wanna change the predator like it will carry an entire movie when i think what ppl want is just a good predator movie.

Im sure some are gonna say “oh well it can’t be JH every time” but that’s not what im saying because CH, Elder, and JH are all different, but the same as in base design. So the thin dreds and seemingly shitty mandables, and the outright admission that the design was changed for idk what reason really annoy me. Anyways what you guys think

I am not gonna lie, this hands down is my favorite new design. I’m actually okay with it and they have a reason for why he looks like that, being a different kind of Yautja. Though not gonna lie, I don’t know how I feel about the dreadlocks, feeling their too thin.

However I love the Mandibles and their body build.

I’m perfectly fine with it, it shows the predators have a wider range of cultures than just the one, though I also don’t mind a return to the original style.

The build is spot on but the mandible make me think thier gonna be as bad as AVP those were terrible. There’s a video that shows how every predator design after the 1st never got the mandibles right. I can give some leeway for them tho like CH and elder were fine i thought but yea AVP(scar) was the worst and that’s what these make me think of. However I’d be glad to eat my words so we’ll jus have to see when it comes out

I like it, a lot. Its slim, sleek, it let’s the Pred’s figure show…its nice. Its not bulky or cumbersome.

My unfortunate sadness is that if this makes it into the game, its probably going to have horrible stats and the FT will tear it to shreds, like a Scout. It sucks being able to play as a cool Pred skin, but you know there’s a chance you’ll run into an unbalanced FT that will make your day miserable.

Yea i get that point no doubt which is why i thought the super preds were a good edition to highlight that point, but at what point is it just changing the iconic look tho?

I mean yeah Scars face wasn’t that good I can agree. However I think Imma stick to my guns about this Predator belonging to “The Island” on Yautja Prime and that’s why his mandibles and build are so different. With different experiments and creations of Yautja’s of different shapes and sizes, I’m kinda okay and more concerned how well he will be in the story.

True, idk im just hoping that if the movies good the pref design doesnt screw it up where its changed so much that the only thing that distinguishes it as a predator are the mandables. Otherwise why be a predator movie at all. I can see your point tho

I never liked scars mandibles or the amount of teeth he had. The video that fixed it was much better and just wish the supers was closer to the original like city hunter but still had its different take I like how the did the emissary’s face that’s what the super predators face should’ve been. This design does look better than both avp and predators to me

Yea i felt the same as far as scar. The supers i thought were ok being a different type of yaujta. This one i like the build the bio mask and the new idea of a retracting shield but the fact he (Trachtenberg) says he changed the look has me somewhat worried like when he removes his mask will it be good or terrible. The rest minus the dress looks harass tho but the face and mandables will be the make or brake as far as design for me at least. I feel like if the movies good but the design sucks I may be able to look past it, but depending how bad (if bad at all) still has yet to be seen

Agreed. Hopefully it is good tho like i said I would really like to eat my words on the design and the movie overall. I want another predator movie that is timeless like 1 and 2. 3 is fine, but find myself watching 1 and 2 more than the rest

I think the big questions this design brings up is hw does it work and how does this yautja hunt.
It lacks certain features, weapons and arnsenal so what does it do to compensate. which i hope they the director/script answers becuase that answer can be very very sophisticated.
But if they fail at explaining it, then I think they just take the simpler (killer is a god route).
Not sure if humanizing this predators efforts would make this film a horror film because then you might ‘feel’ for the predator which is something we don’t want.

These scenerio makes this film all the more intriguing!

Some things I observed from watching the trailer on slow-mo:

  • Pred has a spear of some kind; you can see it chase someone and impale a tree next to them. Its pointed at the tip, not quite as long as a combi.
  • It does appear to have some kind of sword or machete-like blade on its back. Its not the spear, as the pummels are shaped differently, and this one looks like a machete handle.
  • There a really cool scene with the Pred pinning someone against a tree with one hand, blocks an incoming tomahawk with his wrist blades on its other hand, flings it up out of the guy’s hand, catches it as it falls, and nails the guy with it.
  • Left wrist thingy can form a circular shield that cover a little more than a third of the body.

Also, you can see more of the face near the end here. I blew it up and brightened it, it’s not perfect but you can see it opening it’s mandibles as it’s charging. Looks…very different than a typical Yautja, imo

His upper mandibles look much larger than then bottoms. Just saying. or that it has a more vertical arrangement.

I’m still wondering what makes him go cloak. If there is an actual gauntlet or device that does this.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this film leads to a tv show. Seems like the trend now a days with this film leading ahead of the Aliens tv series.

Idk what the explanation is going to be about him having less tech but I do know preds use less tech against opponents that would be at a major disadvantage so they can have a worthy battle other than that could be that they don’t have the tech for the caster yet at least according to the director but we’ll see what their explanation is soon enough.

someone at Fox really likes this idea of removing all the cool decorations, netting, and platings & just having them in a lioncloth and bracelets.

They did it with Upgrade and they’re going to keep doing it.

I hope they bring back the stupid ping pong ball of invisibility
