They did mention something of the sort in one post or another that I read… not specifically mentioning the rifle/experiment, but saying to “practice for upcoming changes” or the like.
I am on board. I think the utility of this rifle lies in if all members, or at least 2, are running it.

Well it absolutely destroys AI, but it also penetrates tree branches and the larger predkour trunks and has zero damage reduction at range. As long as you’re pairing it with the pdw-z or zr55, you can find some success with it.

It also demolishes objectives. Took 13 some odd rounds to blow up the chopper.
I hope they give us a similar pistol.

I think the plasma rifle is quite bad actually.
+Slaughters AI
+comes with a lot of ammo
+Keeps its damage at long range
-Does little damage to predator even with Unleashed specialisation
-25 plasma bullets only in cartridge.
-Is not a instant hit/ tricky to hit.
-Deals friendly damage up-close (this is so catastrophic vs predator) you would have to switch weapons which defeats the purpose and essentially lose DPS as the pred is charging you.
-if you unleash all bullets the reload animation is so slow.
-Possibility to explode barrels and deal friendly damage to you or team-mates.
-Shows the predator your position as he can just follow the stream of plasma.
It really is not worth it in my opinion.

Just kidding - I agree. Not a huge fan of the gun, and would never use it over a proper rifle except for a laugh.
Needs a damage buff of some kind.
You’re saying Unleashed affects the damage, though, is that right?
yes, it buffs it since the plasma shots deal explosive damage

The fact that its projectile makes it pretty cool.
And honestly the damage it does to pred actually feels balanced and fair.
Problem is people have all gotten accustomed to broken damage on ft.
But honestly it’s the best feeling gun in the game.
Really hope it doesnt get more damage and instead the other guns are reduced to match the plasma rifle.

I don’t think it does, but I haven’t run a true comparison. I just used Dante - Unleashed with Bane in a Private Match and I was still being awarded 15XP per shot (the same without Unleashed). It should be a 30% damage buff, right?

Unleashed does NOT effect the Plasma Rifle Prototype nor does assault’s passive.
Deadly does buff the Plasma Rifle Prototype.

I was shocked when I heard Unleashed effected the Prototype, but now I’m relieved it doesn’t effect it.

One of the better feeling weapons in the game and it just wrecks the AI.
I like it.
27 damage at all ranges and against all predators.
The prototype rifle is horrible against the pred but it is excellent for pushing the mission. It has a boatload of ammo and ruins the AI. It also destroys a camp alarm in 3 shots. You do need to use your secondary weapon for dealing damage to the pred, but I think there’s a place for the rifle for one person on the team. The damage to the AI and the speed that you can take the AI out with it also is saving ammo for the rest of your team who no longer need to shoot at the AI. The amount of ammo one person with the prototype rifle saves team mates is roughly equivalent to an ammo pack or two worth of bullets that the rest of the team aren’t having to waste on AI.
Also, the explosion physics it does to the AI are so much fun.

Not for this Rifle, better choose Unleashed, because the Splash DMG is Explosion DMG.
This Rifle also has a built-in autoaim when Hip firing.
Just put the Crosshair over the upper body of AI and you score Headshots for like 70% of the time.
But this also makes the weapon not hit when Preds are leaping away.
Raggy and me tested it yesterday. Bane + Unleashed improves the Damage a lot.
