PS5 vs PC

Here is a video comparing the performance of the PS5 to that of a PC.

They used PC hardware that would match the performance of the PS5. Surprisingly, the PS5 performed as good as a mid-range gaming PC from 5 years ago.

Should you spend $500 on outdated performance?

Watch the video and come up with your own judgement.

I Mean i’ll give you a pretty direct answer for the TL;DW crowd

if your not willing to spend like $1200+ on a gaming PC and you use the last gen consoles yes

yes you should buy it assuming you care more about PS exclusive titles over the Xbox Game pass aka the greatest deal in gaming rn SO if your really want to save money you’d go with the new Xbox console

Yea man and that PC would literally sit there just for gaming because my whole household is apple.
I’m with @KameofWar for that one

Wife bought me a PS5 for Xmas. Didn’t tell me what she paid for it, wisely, as I’m very frugal and don’t like spending money on ā€œtoysā€. My xbone and PS4 ran me a combined $500.

I’m good on a gaming PC. Got other hobbies when the weather heats up. So I’ll stay a happy little uncompetitive filthy casual console peasant 😁

That’s understandable, but just to clarify this thread is not intended to entice the competitive side of both platforms. It’s just to conclude if the investment is justified for the gaming experience you will get.

Well that’s a matter of personal choice. I mean I don’t think there’s any argument over the performance of PC vs Console, nor will there ever be. It a matter of use and purpose. I’ve got a PC I use for utility, generic PC use and my consoles for recreation. I’ve spent less on all 3 of them (again, minus the PS5 which I wouldn’t have purchased for myself) than you have on your better preforming PC, and still get probably the same level of enjoyment.
In the end it’s worth it’s value to the individual in perspective, I imagine you can’t stand the thought of >30 FPS where as I’m perfectly okay with it. On the other hand I’ve got a 75" flat screen cuz I wanna watch football from the other side of the house, you got a PC monitor that’s a lot smaller because it’s better for gaming. Same difference

I agree 100%, but you can’t really be certain unless you have experienced both platforms, which you have, but most console players have not.

You can connect your PC to a TV, just like you can connect a PS5 to a monitor. I don’t think that’s a good selling point.

Get what you’re saying but in the end it’s different strokes for different folks.

Side note: Yeah you can run HDMI between PC and TV but playing SWTOR on a 75" isn’t as fun as it sounds. Least not for me lol

Been like that since 94’ šŸ¤·šŸ¾ā€ā™‚ļø

Consoles are good for their intended purpose ā€œease of useā€

We all love PC but we know they are full of bugs and crashes and is not plug and play. Some people just don’t want to deal with that

So they pay for ā€œoutdatedā€ hardware because of the convenience

Steam Machines were supposed to be the ā€œconsole killersā€ but that never happened because it just wasn’t as convenient and had limited titles support

TBH, play with whatever you wanna play. I own PC and many consoles. They all have their caveats.

I do have to say, though, it grinds my gears whenever someone says something like ā€œoh you need $2000 to buy a gaming computerā€

No you do not… I have computers with outdated hardware that I’ve put together for less than $400 and still beat any console in performance. Will even beat some consoles (ps3, wiiu, switch) by emulating them, both on performance and visual quality.

Buying used PC hardware is a good practice. I bought my i7 8700K from Ebay for $100 less than new.

I play console, almost entirely because I prefer the ergonomics of a controller and smoothness of joystick aiming over the jerkiness of mouse aiming and having your hands resting on a surface.

Anybody else?

I’m with you about the controller. It is much better for movement than a keyboard. But for aiming, a controller cannot beat a mouse.

Most people don’t know, but I’m a hybrid player. I play with XBOX controller for movement, and mouse for everything else. I just can’t get used to the keyboard, it makes me feel like I have arthritis.

Absolutely true, but it doesn’t matter as long as everyone is using the same device.

I mean, is not like you can’t use a controller on PC.

Pretty sure that is not the only reason why you choose console, as that option has been available for PC since like… 30 years ago

even games that do not officially support controller gameplay can be played with a controller using steam. albeit the performance most of the time leaves a lot to be desired

On console, everyone must use a controller, so it’s fair, and emulators can’t perfectly replicate the point to point aiming of a PC.

I played Mech Warrior 2, battlefield 2, battlefield 2142, and aliens vs predator 2 on PC back in grade school and high school, so I have a well informed opinion.

well, that is not technically correct. while on console most games play on controller, modern consoles do support K&M but the game has to support it

I’ve never had a problem with emus using controller (who wants to use K&M for a emulator anyway?)

And that would likely be the end of my ā€œcompetitive gamingā€ experience. However, if acceleration restrictions are placed on mouse aiming and controller aiming has assists for acquisition and holding to target, then the difference wouldn’t matter much.
