tldr: The game has a weird “it’s kinda working” balance where the pred is OP when the FT doesn’t work together but the FT is godlike when they communicate & cover eachother. Pred players & FT players need each other for this game to survive. So before you cry asking for a 1-sided nerf, ask yourself if this would expand the player base &/or extend the life of the game.
I’m going to start by saying this game needs a lot of work, as do most online multiplayer games the first few months after release.
So who should Illfonic balance for?
Should they beef up the pred & nerf the FT so the pred provides a challenge &/or dominates a full 4-man party every single match, completely ruining the experience for solo FT players?
Or should they beef up the FT & nerf the pred giving solo FT players a chance while giving the pred less than 0% chance of winning against a full party, ruining the game for the predator?
(So help me God if I hear another person state “but it’s called Predator: Hunting Grounds” I will flip my shit. If you got your wish this game would turn into Predator: Empty Grounds.)
It does need tweaking, because right now a 4-man FT that works together & communicates feels unstoppable, and this is from someone that mainly plays FT because I have no patience.
Whenever I queue solo as FT, I can count on getting John Rando on my team who trash talks from the start & runs out trying to 1v1 knife fight the pred, only to get killed & immediately rage quit because his “team sucks”. I probably have a 20% win/extract rate while queuing solo.
On the other hand, whenever I’m partied with 3 other FT and we talk & cover each other, we practically never lose. (I’m not a god at this game, all the tree branches & leaves that I’ve killed will tell you that much.)
And no pred mains, I don’t want to 1v4 or 1v1 you in a private match, I just want to play the game. It isn’t my job to be your practice dummy just so you can avoid the matchmaking wait times.
For every “Nerf the FT” comment there’s a “Nerf the Pred” comment. Neither side actually wants a challenge, they just want a higher win rate. (Is nobody trying to have fun in this game?)
FT players think they should be Rambo and be able to mow down the pred the instant they see them. To me “Nerf the Pred” = I play solo and team up with 3 randoms that don’t communicate or work together, and we get wiped every time.
Pred players want to one-shot everything “just like in the movie!” It’s like they would rather have the predator in DBD cuz the humans can’t fight back in that game. To me “Nerf the FT” = I run into 4-man parties that communicate and work together, and I always die when I drop in the middle of them.
This is not a single player game. If you give one side the power fantasy, the other side gets dropped into a meat grinder, and oh hey look, the game is dead.
This is a multiplayer game. Predators & the FT need each other. (And “pred mains”, you need 4 ppl willing to play FT for every 1 person that wants to play pred. Most of you posting don’t seem to realize this.)
So please, the next time you start flipping out & demanding nerfs because you only play 1 side of an asymmetrical game, ask yourself if that change is truly a benefit for the entire community.
