Serious question

Does anyone know the process or how it works to get permission to screen a movie in theatres?

Here’s some context…so I been calling around to see if I rent a theatre out would i be able to stream prey. They all say no because of legalities, but if im renting a theatre for a private screening then what’s the problem? One said something about seeing if the company…in this case hulu or I should say disney would allow them to stream it. I guess out of all the places I called one thing is consistent and that is everyone is aware how anally stingy disney is with thier shit…

Pretty frusterated because these fucks own just about everything ent. wise and with all that income they still won’t even allow PRIVATE screenings of it. Is basically jus be borrowing the big screen to watch the movie which i paid for the hulu subscription…trash…fuckin trash

You can rent the theatre, but not the content. They wouldnt let you jump in and connect whatever device and let you stream that on the screen. I believe anything onscreen is only through the theatre and is available to them (either on their menu or live events). Otherwise, they woudnt let you do it with your own content because you know…porn and people are ijiots…

yeah and porn, because the theatre doesn’t have the legal right to broadcast just anything right, even some highly anticipated event like Prey through HUlu that is NOT the theatre’s business nor do they have the right to broadcast that live to any channel for any unspecified amount of cash. They could be streaming to 1 person or 500 right and in that theatre some guy could be recording it on their private laptop right? then uploading that to some pirate video website where 10000s could watch for free. right?

Lmao well they advertise it as “when you rant a unit for your private event you can screen your own content…” That was thier reply when i asked about screening Prey there. It was pretty vague so i had to ask bluntly and thats when they said no because Disney is really stingy with thier stuff.

Well so much for that idea…i guess a projector is the next best thing

well, i was curious about HUlu anyway, and even if you get a free 30 days subscription, you still need to pay for ‘some’ movies. and chances are likely Prey will be a paid for movie much like Amazon Prime and their so called everything is free except for the stuff that isn’t free.

again from your response , your own content means its based off of their menu.

Streaming has been a gift for piracy

everything’s available in HD day 1 because you can rip the movie straight from amazon/netflix/whatever

exactly. Some guy could just be recording it right away.

In Canada, I believe as long as you’re renting it and you’re not getting money from people to watch it you should be okay

Shut up,pay for the movie and play the game youu degenerate! You hesitating to hit send on your message! die! I see you typing live…then it stops! Thats a sign of your degeneracy! If you’re incapable of your own thoughts…omg. Know yourself Skeletor-man! Because that guy named Martinez is not going to help you. You got a split-identity crisis!

GEEZUB- 9minutes you ve been hesitating! If you write one sentence, prepare to be thrown in the trash bin.

Oh again! You cancelled out of the message field. Like what you are about to write next will destroy yoU! and its been 10 minutes.

Again, you’ve gone away! 11minutes~! You must be in a real moral dilemma! And i’m watching you live typing it out then cancelling again!

Son, you wasted 14 minutes thinking and typing and then deleting…get her done!
and don’t say the internet went out 10 times.

I work for Alamo Drafthouse and the process is quite complex, involving negotiations between studios, film distributors and the theater. Involves stuff such as screening fees as well as seat sold fee. For private events it involves specific fees depending on the content, screen size, attendees, etc, and the content needs to be negotiated with the studio and/or distributor.

Only thing you can stream live, without any legal technicalities, is Over The Air broadcasts (basically anything that is free and available for everyone).

In the case of Prey, it belongs to Hulu, and renting a theater to stream it, is no different than you hosting a “watch party” at your place and charging an entry fee. (big illegal shit)

My advice? You are better of contracting a company to supply you with an outdoor screen, projector and speakers so you can put whatever content you wish to project. In that case, is no different than projecting a youtube video, a twitch stream or some pictures of you and your family like they do at weddings.

Fuck disney whats a couple watchin it for free gonna do they own almost everything and instill ain’t enough. Its as if they don’t wanna share the wealth instead of putting it in theatres they rather put it on thier shit app to lure ppl in to subscribe and on top of that hulu has commercials you can’t skip but if you pay more you can skip em.

Reminds me of when that aliens game was in the works before the merge and as soon as it was finalized they shut that game down and gave us some half baked, content lacking, im gonna invest crumbs to get maximum profit ass game because i want all the revenue from it not royalties. Im ranting, but seriously thier schemes to squeeze more money outta ppl even when everything costs more…not to mention the politics and shit they stuff down ppls throat. Idk how ppl still support them

You deserve a heart!

well that took you an aweful long time to write! and don’t tell me you wrote it three words at atime while eating a monster dinner for 16 minutes with one hand. you were in the realtime writing box forever!

Sorry let me put my job on hold to reply cus this forum pays my bills you rat sympathizer

Thanks for the help! Gonna have to figure somethin out

Happy to help

Just make sure you don’t charge a single penny to go to your watch party, otherwise you can be processed legally and fines can be up to $250,000 dollars… and is a federal crime.
