After watching the actual interview and hearing the words out the horses mouth, some things are a bit clearer now. Mainly at the very end when he’s asked what time period it’s in, and he clearly states “We have not revealed the time period. You can use your imagination. It is early.”
So there is some wiggle room, especially if they don’t outright mention they are Comanche. I certainly hope so, because native American history goes back thousands of years on the continent.

I actually think this movie sounds as if it’s going in the right direction in terms of returning to the essence of the first movie. I particularly like the reference to The Revenant as inspiration.
Yes, the trite ‘Gender norms’ BS synopsis sounded insufferably performative, but hopefully it’ll be conveyed with subtlety or indifference (like Ripley in Aliens) rather than with a woke clumsy sledgehammer of sanctimony.
It really doesn’t matter if the lead is male or female, as no human of either sex would be able to defeat a Predator in one-on-one physical combat. Dutch didn’t punch JH to death - he set traps. As long as we don’t end up seeing a 5’6” skinny girl grabbing a Pred in a headlock and breaking his neck there’s no reason to have an issue with a female lead.
Of course this film could end up being hot garbage, but it’ll have to go a long way to be as bad as Shame Black’s abortion of a movie.
I’ll reserve judgment until I see it. My main concern at this point is that they get the Predator design right - that way even if the movie is shit, we get a cool Pred design out of it (e.g. AVP Requiem).
It is semi-confirmed that the hunter is being depicted by Kyle Strauts - same guy who was cut from The Predator 2018 (he was one of the emissary preds)
Not sure how he performs as a predator (quz he was cut, so we had no chance to see him) but he defiantly has got the right physic for it.
