Until they can figure out a way to help predator at high level play only. One of the hardest things to do with asymmetric games is balancing them for all skill levels. I fully understand that if you go all out and balance for high skill then pubs will get rekt by predator almost every game.
In Evolve Stage 2 the best example I can think of that balanced the game for both sides was the monster Behemoth. He got melted by pro teams. So the devs gave him a living fortress which will give him more armour the more damage he takes. This armour will then start to drop after a few seconds or so of no damage. The lower skill teams didnât get affected much as they couldnt put out that damage but Behemoth could finally be played vs the pro teams. It worked really well.
While the slam animation cancel isnât as good as the fortress mechanic Iâm not sure if general pubs are going to be using it. Itâs not that intuitive and sometimes will not work. But what it does mean is that the massively FT favoured balance for high skill games is brought a little more towards the middle. Getting stuck in that animation is ridiculous. You get lit up far too much.
I know some people will say just rarely ever use slam but you donât stand a chance if you think youâre going to take on a strong team with his other stuff makes him far too vulnerable and is far harder to hit than the FT hitscan weaponry.
Obviously I would prefer to see pred buffed for high level play in ways that are intended but the truth is this helps him right now and I canât see it affecting pubs.
