Specializations are broken

Also excavation seems to be a five to six out of 10 chance when you’re playing pred. Excavation is the map I play the most often. Don’t care for that really.

Oh I agree with you when it comes to the balancing. Players should not be a factor in balancing a game.

Fuck you’re right,. Damnit

i dropped squadrons after a month precisely because I was getting matched with people 100+ levels above me. Ridiculous.

havent played since december

All this makes my childhood hurt lol

I’ve been on the receiving end of that, it’s not fun

A. Limiting equipment is a very bad idea. Your literally balancing around restricting choice.

B. I paid for that hammerhead. I don’t care that it’s free now don’t you dare take that away from me.

C. Just implement SBMM

Sadly that’s balance. You’ve invested time in this game you didn’t that one. From a business perspective Illfonic wins and did nothing differently.

You can’t create skill based match making when you release a game. You don’t know what’s skill, what’s exploit and what’s unbalanced. Again…I like to think Illfonic is playing a long game and that’s a good thing. Even if I don’t like how long it’s taking

They def aren’t playing the long game when they started making changes before ft.players unlocked and started trying out the various guns and learning what parrying was

Where preds had so few.tools they just used the last ones they unlocked the stick the bow and the Zerker

Also while I don’t endorse this technically if you want to influence the balance.of the game youd want to win on the public matchmaker as often as possible to skew the devs data that they collect so I mean realistically we would just take like a months were everyone we could get our hands on would play X number a FT games in a group to skew their data and then they’d have to make changes because suddenly FT winrate is like 70% Now of course I’m not saying anyone should do this

While being admirable limiting yourself to basically pre.patch 2.0 builds is nice

I didn’t say they were doing it right. Literally the player base had to learn how to Fireteam and the skill level for “smart play” is actually on par with individual pred play.

Just calling it like I sees it and what I see is a determination of balance from a FT perspective because everyone wants to play pred…which is logical. Flawed…but logical

Right?

I’m a firm believer that balance from a dev perspective should be see ln like doctors deal with illness here let me give you a story

Okay so in the game killer instinct in 2013 I believe there was a character called jago early in the game’s life span this character dominated the ranked que everyone complained that his heel was too strong because it healed 30% of his HP so people demanded his heels should be nerfed the devs then poured over eight weeks of data in that data they realized oh jago has no losing matchups he is 50/50 on all of them or better so let’s think about what is jaygo supposed to be good at well he’s supposed to be good at long range because of fireball spam and he’s supposed to be good at very short range with his bursty combos his heal is not the problem what’s the problem is that he has no range where he is bad so what did the devs do they changed his wind kick which is basically his like he dive kicks forward and it covers like half of the screen at that time it covered the entire screen so he could just do it from anywhere and start his offense and id.by some miracle you did dmg he would heal for 30% undoing all your efforts so they nerfed his kick by making it unsafe so if he win kicked and you blocked it you just got to kick the s*** out of him and then therefore when they change that everyone got mad cuz they didn’t Nerf the heel but then 3 weeks later nobody complained about jago because now he had four losing matchups

curing a symptom doesn’t always cure the underlying disease

so that tells me that players don’t actually know most of the time what the problem is in a game the only way you can tell is by having tons and tons of data which at the beginning of thise games lifespan just did not have that data now of course very high end.player can tell what a problem is or will be as MOBAS have time and time again proved that

TLDR
because patches are monthly I still don’t believe they have that data at least not accurately of course sometime in other games the game director may be on a power trip and believe he can’t be wrong but I’d hope Illfonic isn’t in the place

That’s a nice story and all, but doesn’t really apply here.

I mean its literally common sense.

Give the team faction the ability to severely damage or kill the solo faction single handedly, and when you multiply the damage, it becomes unbalanced.

And data from matches vs scrubs won’t be accurate so there goes getting anything useful.

First person shooters are the Easiest genre, so no. You can’t compare how well someone does on ft to pred, or vice versa.

And being on a team it’s not easy to see how well you do as an individual from an outside perspective.

What does This mean?

right it’s just outside of the genre’s of games it was a (relatively) similar story

The guys that made KI was a small studio with microsoft backing the $
they didn’t’ have a particularly large player base pull data from
Fighting games are also notoriously hard to balance and be fun at the same time

the only major diffrence was that team had some of the best combat designers the games industry had to offer at that time

but Killer instinct is still looked back at fondly

and i don’t think the same will be said for this game

Honestly as far as fighting games go, I think the most balanced one I’ve ever played was soul calibur 3.

Like damn near every character was viable, just had to learn them.

Not really a main stream one, but I felt dbz tenkaichi 2 and 3 were pretty balanced considering if you knew how to play the game well enough. You could literally whoop a ss4 gogeta with fkn some of the weakest characters lol.

Those were fun as shit.

Sf and tekken while fun have always been plagued by spam though.
Like damn near every fighting game.

Except SC 3.
I never saw spam work against good players.
Fucking miss that game.

It means they were balancing from a FT perspective at launch. The initial idea was because the pred will balance itself since everyone wants to play it and everyone will give feedback on why it sucks. Things didn’t work out that way and that’s why we are where we are?

So…right. Picture that scenario but instead of a wind kick you had a zerker combistick. Only…instead of nerfing the combistick, they nerfed the stick and the zerker using it and it spiraled out of control from there because they weren’t agreed on what balance should be in the first place.

Hence…where we landed and how we got here…

I dunno. I fix trucks not games but it fits the scenario from a top down perspective that I’ve seen
