Specializations are broken

yeah cause they knew the symptom which was the zerker combi stick was op but that wasn’t the disease of the situation which was FT didn’t know what tools they had were supposed to be used for what situation

using parrying using the close range guns etc…

and then it spiraled out of control

Exactly…like a bad doctor they treated the symptoms and not the cause. In the end just making it worse. All things considered, I think it’s par for the course. Either they realize what went wrong, fix it and life goes on, or they don’t, keep treating symptoms, the fault grows and the game dies.

So far…there’s stilla heartbeat here and I’m down to ride

If I may there is another way to balance this beyond rage nerfs. In the movies the Pred avoided getting shot. And that also makes sense with the games mechanics. Between cloak, tree’s, branches, and speed, avoiding damage may of been the planned alternative.

So if this is the case then high FT dps isn’t the problem, after all what good does DPS do if you can’t hit your target. What would be the problem is the inefficiency of those systems at avoiding damage.

Meaning that it’s not so straight forward.

I would not dare to…

You would get a hammerhead, certainly - just with just the firepower of a Z06… If that is fine for you?

What is SBMM?

Skill Based Matchmaking

IMO there should just be a ranked mode with a leaderboard update it every 8 weeks let us look at players most used loadouts using that list and tell us how many games they were in groups of X# in the case of FT

and for players in the top we’ll say 200 give them 100k Vert at every reset

then dev’s can have some REAL tangible data to work with

Kame, those effects easily can be eliminated using statistical methods. They just need to ask a mathematician - or someone who nowadays is called (Big) Data Analyst.

Do you think they hired one of those when they don’t even have an AI programmer

That is the problem with small or medium sized companies, no money for nothing… :)

But wait… If they would take that topic seriously, it would not be a problem to “rent” a freelancer, right… ? Maybe some Illfonic manager reads this. Just ask :)

well yeah freelance contracts happen all the time though usually the freelancers are either given a date or a goal that once achieved they are let go so i supposed if they wanted to hire a guy to go over a month’s worth of balance data and provide a spreadsheet of results they could but i would say that would be a strange use of resources for a gaming development company

Gotcha!

That is a truth which seems to be ignored most of the times!

There are people out there, who are outstanding as FT but just mediocre as Pred and vice versa.

If you ask me, that is another reason, why some claim, that FT is overpowered…

I do not think, that this would be a strange use… Mathematics is powerful but its power must be skillfully forged… It is widely underestimated, what one can get out of (even poor) data sets using statistical methods.

A “normal” programmer is not able to achieve this, neither on the same level in terms of output nor in terms of time needed to do this. Data Analysts are widely used, not just in banks…

If that is not already done in game industry, it should be!

No, with a single game, this indeed is not possible. If you win, that also could be luck. If you loose, that also could be misfortune. Or team members who are lousy…

But with hundreds of games, it is easy to see, whether you belong to bad, mediocre, good or outstanding.

i’m sure it is in very large companies with massive amounts of data per month like Riot Games or Activision Blizzard and the like
it’s just with a small company like illfonic i can’t imagine them being willing to pay that price at this time

I think, we are not talking about huuuuge amounts of money. As I said, good data analysts are able to analyze data quite quickly or even code some scripts to let that be done automatically - so, pay once and then profit from that the rest of your life…

But I understand, what you want to say: it all depends on whether the business men know resp. believe that or not. Mostly not :)

By the way, guys, which is the “most balanced” as well as “most similar to PHG” game out there at the moment? Which one should I try…?

Some truth in that.

I personally think, that they have two development teams - one for FT and one for Pred - and I tell you what: the latter sucks, if you ask me :)

All that getting stuck everywhere and j/bumping into walls and and and… Did not get comfortable playing the predator from the beginning - although I too bought the game, as playing the predator seemed to be a cool thing…

Asym multiplayer games are very uncommon the first one that ever made it big was evolve unless you want to broaden the catagory to be “any multiplayer game where both teams have diffrent toolsets/gameplay” in which case any MMO would count but i assume you want a shooter and sadly at this time there is just that one game where your a bounty hunter in a swamp (i don’t remeber it’s name Outriders comes to mind) and then Dead by Daylight as the only big Asym game both of which are Ok

Yes man! I’ve seen and played against predators, who are nearly ghosts. I think it is possible not to be shot down by the FT just by being careful, sneaky, fast hopping and so on - and I think that is still true against good FTs.

You then might not be able to take them all out. But that is another question and it is the question, whether a good balancing means, that in half of the cases, the predator should be able to kill the whole team.

Personally I do not think so…

Cool, thanks for the hints! I’ll have a closer look at both ocassionaly!
