Yeah. Still, we got pretty far. It’s just that human lifespan is so short. I really hope to see missions to mars and possible colonization. It feels like the tech world of Alien isn’t that far away.

At 36, the prospect of seeing man doing anything beyond the same racial, sexual, religious and generally negative bigotry that our species has been doing since our conception becomes more and more dim. We’ve been poisoned by media from the 50s and 60s, that promised a unified utopia of man, aided with the prospect of no need for conventional fuel, no need for excessive power, and we would reach beyond the stars and colonize the world around us. And look where we still are today. If anything, in the last 20-odd years, we’ve gone backwards in our overall advancements. Sure, current technology is straight out of those 60s programs, but we’re still using fossil fuel, we still drive vehicles that require it (hybrids and electrics are far beyond the conventional pay wage), we still operate on electricity and natural gas, airplanes are no different, society as a whole is a crumbling mess all around the world, and our space program doesn’t exist. Even independent programs like Space X, all they do is shoot up celebrities and that’s it. There’s no progress. We haven’t been back to the moon since the late 60s. The International Space Station, back in my day something revolutionary that promised space expansion, is now being shut down and expected to crash in the ocean in a few years. We should be on Mars. We should have some kind of outpost out there, or more. There so much we should be doing, should have been doing, that we aren’t, for whatever reason. That’s what’s depressing to me, because my childhood promised wonders beyond imagination by this time in history…but we’re nowhere even close to that. We’re still stuck here, angry, violent, destructive…I don’t think our species will ever evolve beyond what we are now.
Tl;dr: mankind sucks ass and I want to bang some martians but never will.

All it takes is one decent mission from USA to Mars and then China will be trying their own stuff and maybe other space programs will spring up. Besides exploration, there also needs to be something value to be found on Mars.
