First Person Shooters were made on PC. You wont have a better pairing. Controllers are potatoes in spirit.

Make sure you get a gaming mouse with at least 5 buttons. If it has macro and/or programable buttons even better. I use a “weird” setup; jump, reload, aim, fire, melee, interact, gear use and weapon switch is all on my mouse. I crouch with the space bar. But that setup works for me on almost all FPS I play. I spend some time doing custom key bindings but at the end, is much more comfortable
also, Playstation controller layout sucks. Xbox/Nintendo layout is much more comfortable IMO

good games actually have decent aim assist. on MW console players are lethal at close range because of this.

Am I right in assuming that I have to continuously hold down the crouch button for the PC version?
Most games will give you that option for sprint, crouch and aim (hold or toggle)
PHG crouch is toggle, aim is hold and sprint is available in both

More than the number of button the mouse has I would rather focus on the grip, space and sensitivity. If you dont want to struggle a lot at the start, I reccomend you to buy a confortable mouse (is subjective, depends on you), a large mouse pad and use a low sense to not miss every shot.
