Stop using the small developer excuse to defend Illfonic

A small team of just under 100 ppl (as of 10 months ago),
They have three studios (one in Colorado, one in Washington, one in Texas)
IllFonic’s estimated annual revenue is currently $18.4M per year.
IllFonic’s estimated revenue per employee is $202,000

Not including funding from sony and epic.
And they have access to developers from both.

Yeah they are real indie…

And that data is from august last year (will be updated again august this year).

I don’t know how many times I’ve said this but the “fan boys” will die hard over this game lol
I had to tag illfonic over 10 times to get a response on wether they are fixing an issue that should’ve been tested and fixed before release. It was through a private message.

I saw your daily boosts on multiple threads for it.
I hope it was good news.

next patch is D-Day

It was for the inverted setting on the flight disc. How hard is it to fix that. Hasn’t worked since day one. And that is one of the most basic levels of programming. Some people need to get fired or at least hire new more competent people then do some firing. Also the creative director is an idiot. Absolutely no creativity. Lol fire him too 😂 🤷🏻‍♂️

go do is work them you seem to know so well how to fix all of this stuff, go do the job and ask for being hired ;)

Gotta hand it to you, that is a great analogy but… You did mention something about “basic levels of programming”… Do you know anything about programming controls on games or you are just taking a guess that it “must be easy”?

Btw I’m not defending illphonic, they have some serious issues to correct not only in this game, but as a company.

You are right, it was someone else. My bad.

Yes but everyone who cries like babies demanding answers obviously don’t know game development. Things take time. also were in the middle of a pandemic, so yall just need to chill out. that or go find something else to play in the mean time

To be honest my main complain is that this game was marketed as “release” instead of what it really is… “early access”. I don’t even complain about the price, $40 is on par with the price of an early access game. But they should’ve marketed as such. Would’ve prevented them from so much salty people complaining about crucial bugs, me included, lol

To be honest was anything changed from beta to release?
Apart from cosmetics which seems to be their only concern.

I didn’t play the beta, so I can’t really tell

But even cosmetics seem to be broken sometimes. And probably the worst part is how new bugs that were not there before appear after a patch “fix”. I mean… I am not a software developer, but I work in IT with software developers, testing both hardware and software… I’m still scratching my head as to why adding cosmetic changes trigger stuff like network disconnections.

I am a software developer and this shit blows my fucking mind.
How a weapon skin can erase all character loadouts…
How an update can simply corrupt save files to the point that something that is hard coded not to be possible (same weapon two slots), suddenly becomes possible even though it’s impossible for it to actually be selected. (for the record this happened because when they did the update someone forgot which slot the plasma caster was hard coded to and hard coded it to a different slot (or were using very old code before several adjustments to apply an update to new code)…amateur hour)

It is quite simply shitty programing. And Illfonic make over US$18 mil per year, so it’s not like they don’t have the resources.

There’s some fat cats getting seriously rich off this crap they call a game and they honestly couldn’t give a fuck if it tanks. They’ve made their money.

And they will just pump out DLC for the Fan Boy casual players (the teenage, daddy let’s me use his credit card, market), because they want to always have the newest shit.

It’s the new version of Pay To Win (except in this instance it wont help you win but it’s the same concept).

Illfonic business model:
obtain rights to intellectual property agreements for huge fan bases.
Release a beta showing development.
Advertise pre-orders (with a non game affecting bonus if you pay 80% more for the product, kids love this boasting rights bullshit).
Release the beta again (with shit loads of cosmetic options for the kids), once enough pre-orders are in but market it as a finished product.
Pump paid DLC at the player base knowing that the kids with daddy’s credit card will just pay for the newest shit possible (bragging rights).

All due respect those are pretty small potato stats for a gaming company. But because you don’t like a company we should disregard any facts of the company because you got a stick up your ass. Yeah the game has issues and while being a small company doesn’t necessarily excuse these faults but if you don’t think they are small, as far as studios like theirs go, then you’re just totally detached from reality.

US$18 million made last year, over 100 staff, three different production locations…
I’ve seen more polished games released by people doing it as a hobby.

And in all honesty, most of the fuck ups in the game are purely and simply shitty programming and not developing updates off the latest code. It’s simple shit.

Cosmetics should not in any way affect gameplay. that’s not rocket science, that’s just fucking up.

but if you want to come at me as a fan boy “illfonic is the greatest and the game has no issues”, then you may as well stop typing now.

And actually that kind of revenue is not small for an independent gaming company (they’re not actually independent as a matter of fact they are backed by Epic and Sony), most truly independent gaming companies dream of making US$10 mil a year.

No you haven’t first off. Second off, did you bother to look up their costs and expenditures? Or did you just cherry pick sensational bullshit? And thirdly, yeah. Any company with under like 500 employees is considered small because there are MILLIONS of people in this country and tons of companies with thousands, tens of thousands employees and more that make infinitely more in and out of the gaming industry. So stop trying to argue that Illfonic is not in fact a small company. Incidentally how many of those employees are devs? Human recourse? Payment management? All that shit? You wanna throw out these numbers and act like it’s all so damning and Illfonic is so big and scary but you conveniently neglect to get into the nitty gritty. And I don’t really even care that you are criticizing the game as it has more than a few issues but it you’re gonna do it at least try to at least have some kind of integrity about it

In response I will simply say:
Open the game.
Go to “Options”
Select “Credits”
And read.

But read it to the end…
