Suggestion: parry costs stamina

Parry costs 50-70% of your stamina.

pros:
-still gives FT that much needed second of breathing room for teammates to help out

  • negates the ability to 1v1 the pred
  • would affect classes appropriately (if over 50%, leaves support more vulnerable, where recon or scout can Regen stamina. I think this scales appropriately with hp)
  • a parrying FT had less opportunity to parry and run
  • blade is still useful for AI the whole game (blade doesn’t break/ can’t parry AI so it doesn’t affect that gameplay)

Cons:

  • negatively affects end game if someone wants to honor battle a Pred
  • ???

Thoughts? Additional pros and cons?

Parry does currently drain stamina I believe.

Yeah, but the recharge starts before the predator can hit again, essentially giving infinite parrying.

Yeah, I don’t think I’m a fan of this idea.

I like my parrying just fine how it is. I still get killed to melee it’s not like they gave us an auto parry perk.

Edit - who’s running around actually winning 1 v 1’s with a knife?

If all Predator had to do when parried is just continue attacking, there would not be much use for it I think.

Parry needs to be “bad” for the Predator, otherwise there is no deterrent for Predators to just run over and melee each FT down.

I’m coming from a neutral pov, I think. I don’t think parry is broken but I also do think the favor swings toward FT (no pun intended). Like parry feels aggressive rather than defensive. A wolf in sheep’s clothing kinda deal.

I’ve only ever heard people complain about 1v1 a Predator. Ive never witnessed it. Where I’m bothered is when I have an FT member clearly isolated. Say 3 are in a building completing the objective, I should be able to down the one outside. A good parry-er can kill a good 5-10 seconds, completely throwing the advantage.

So I don’t mind parrying. But length of time it takes to down a good parry-er feels unbalanced.

I think fireteam members should only be able to parry once per encounter with the predator. They shouldn’t be able to parry infinitely and deflect all of the predator’s attacks. The parry shouldn’t allow a fireteam member to win a 1v1 with a predator, it should stun the predator and give the other team members the opportunity to shoot the predator.

Also, I noticed that more people have learned how to parry properly. It used to be the PC players that were the only experts at parrying but now it feels like everyone knows how to parry.

Being in the FTs favor I believe is the intention.

Parry does cost stamina.

Predators are supposed to like a challenge, not seek to fight those who can’t defend themselves. If anything you should want it to be closer to a fair 1v1 so you can prove your superiority over superior numbers but also over significant individual threats.

The current parry allows you to 1v1 a Predator if you have a knife. The Fireteam member can attack twice with it before the Predator is out of the stun animation. Since stamina regenerates during that time, they can just repeat it over and over again. I didn’t know until it happened to me today. A highly trained human with a small knife was able to out damage a big intergalactic sports hunter with a sword in a 1v1 fight. No one else around or any fancy maneuvers, just the two of us swinging our weapons at each other. Do you realize how stupid that is for an asymmetrical game? If one of the team members leaves the group to engage the uninjured monster in a 1v1 fight, then the monster should always win. Your suggestion would prevent FTs from being able to 1v1 the Predator, so I’m all for it. I’d suggest making it cost 70% so they get only one parry. You go after the Predator by yourself, then you pretty much deserve to die.

Unfortunately, the devs seem to want this game to be either COD with a Predator or an arcade brawler, so chances are they won’t fix an obviously stupid situation. Even if I’m wrong and they do, there’d be a lot of salty FTs because they can’t 1v1 the Predator anymore.

heresy

I am largely ok with this. Would incentivize Fireteam to stick together more rather than being retarded. I personally almost never get parried but those knife fighter wanna-bes do tend to get their team killed a lot. Also the knife damage is fairly stupid as it is so I think this would be fair.
