The 2nd Year of the Ukrainian War
Itâd be weird if I didnât have a boner.
Im dying đđ
All of what you said.
Damn dirty aliens.
Correction: Damn dirty aliens with boners
Is not about being oppressed or not.
A right is something that cannot be legally denied, but when the government constantly modify laws in order to deny you what was a ârightâ before, then you start to realize what we have in here are privileges that can be revoked whenever is convenient to the government.
Is easy to forget that some 80 years ago American Citizens were forced to leave their homes and move into concentration camps because of their heritage.
Not 2 years ago when the pandemic hit, a lot of people got denied their right to choose whether or not to vaccinate.
So yeah⌠you have ârightsâ that can change at any moment. Those are not rights, those are privileges.
That was before the civil rights movement.
I assume youâre referring to the Japanese.
Now everybody benefits from the unalienable rights provided by the constitutionânot just white males.
And as for the covid shot. You still had the right to not take it. You just had to find another employer, or if you were in the military face consequences like a discharge.
You had a right to say no and your employer had a right to say, well fuck off.
You werenât being pinned to the ground and getting a needle jammed into your shoulder.
Either or the âprivilegesâ you have in a modern democracy far out weigh the âprivilegesâ you have under a Dictatorship or Autocracy. Which was my entire point.
You have the right to vote or not to vote.
That was not always the case. Minorities and women had to fight hard to gain that privilege. Just so their great grandkids can say nah man, the systems rigged. Votings for suckers.
You just said it yourself.
You are born with rights. Privileges are granted.
Rights and unrevokable, face no consequences and donât cost you anything. No one has any rights. Not even to kill yourself.
Being able to do whatever you want is not âexercising a rightâ. Do not confuse free will with having rights.
Sounds a lot like the three unalienable rights granted by the constitution. The right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Since you brought up covid in a reference. You know in China, in their lockdowns they seal your door, then gate you in, and then itâs patrolled by a Covid guard to make sure you donât get out. If you do, they beat the fuck out of you. And if you try and go online to cry about it, they just censor it instantly.
Too many Americans bitch about any slight inconvenience but never even seen true oppression.
Then they donât even vote but want to bitch about everything. Like Martinez said, âI donât vote because I want to be able to bitch about things.â The fuck?
Anyways, the entire point of the thread was understanding the why Russia invaded, and why itâs actually cheaper for the US to continue to use Ukraine as a proxy.
I come from Puerto Rico, a place invaded by the US, a country that bombed and killed all the movements pro independence during the 40âs through the 70âs and basically killed any hope and the spirit of those who would have any ideas for independence. The USA literally bombed their own territory. Thatâs the same government who granted us ârightsâ (but we canât even vote for congress as US citizens). The same government that control all imports/exports driving prices of products to ridiculous prices, all meanwhile the local politicians under a âdemocracyâ make sure they stay in office one way or another (google Dr. Pedro Rosello and check how he managed to end in the senate after he lost his run for governor). Not to mention the line of politicians who have lobbied to privatize government agencies only to discover years later that it was sold to a company they themselves were part owners.
So yeah, I get what you are saying but you also need to understand where people also come from and understand their POV.
Democracy is a fallacy.
Ukraine can petition to be a part of nato/eu all it wants, but itâs not them who make the final decision. Itâs NATO/eu. Just look at what Finland/Sweden have to go though with some countries protesting against their membership.
NATO expansion is a valid point, but then consider Russiaâs expansion is taking over Chechnya, and basically controlling Belarus and Georgia politically. Then they constantly interfered in Ukrainian politics as well. Basically Yanukovich was their man. Why can Russia do this but then NATO expands, itâs war? Everyone says that NATO started this, but NATO only moved in because Russia was already involved. NATO bid for Ukraine was in 2008. Yanukovich first ran for presidency in 2004 ) Heâs a criminal in Ukraine, but Russia is harboring him).
Putin says that Ukraine should be neutral, but keeping part of Russian black sea fleet in crimea for 2 decades didnt bother him at all.
As per the Monroe Doctrine the US doesnât even want a rival fucking around in the Western Hemisphere.
Every regional power has their own sphere of influence. Russia views Ukraine and a majority of other former Soviet States as itâs back yard. They donât like people fucking around back there.
You need buffer states like Mongolia and Ukraine for regional stability.
Russia still has those outdate view that someone considers it a rival. Those days are long gone and them pretending it hurts everyone.
You canât call ukraine a buffer state when one of the counties keeps its military there. Before they call out nato they should check if they are doing it right first.
They had a treaty and a joint lease to share the base. Russia needs some warm water ports. Then they just took the whole thing for themselves, they donât like to share.
When you say no one views them as a rival what do you mean? Like the West doesnât think much of them anymore?
Yeah, it was a contract lease. When Ukraine decided to discontinue it, the writing was on the wall. Russia has warm water poets on their side of the sea as well, so this is more of an area of control thing, even though Turkey is right there and is a NATO member and has a good navy to be intimidating. I think it more of a âif we can, then why notâ from Russians.
Yes. The west went as far as to hurt itself by cutting of Russian energy supplies to a minimum in a way to prove that Russia is useless to them and at best is a convenience. Yes, they have weapons, but even with those they are limited to what they can do and even tho the option of nuclear war is not what anyone wants, everyone knows that Russia is not crazy enough to do it. The west is taking it slow to avoid quick escalations while Russia cooks itself from the inside. More and more this feels very scripted.
After the initial failure to take over Kyiv, i think it became clear that nuclear is the only way Russia can hurt the west, but both sides know it wonât happen so weâre just playing out a scenario of a destroyed Ukraine and weakened Russia.
Who do you think is going to win the war and by when?
Russia wonât win unless china steps in, but i think that wonât happen. Ukraine could win if the war last another 2-3 years and they keep getting western support. Thatâs could happen if the western economy is on the path to healthy recovery. Most likely there will be a peace agreement, but Russia will have to give up some of the occupied lands. If Putin is wise, something is better than nothing. Thr longer this goes, the less heâll get to keep, especually if Ukraine starts msking significant gains.
Wouldnât Russia with a bigger population and more troops stand a better chance of winning a war of attrition?
The West will probably be tired of fundimg the war if it goes on another year.
If they had the equipment. Morale will only keep deteriorating and weâll likely see small rebellions here and there. Infighting among people in charge, elites, military. Economy on a downturn. All of these will have a cumulative effect. Even if Putin will last as long as possible, there will be cracks in support. Plus who knows at what point the people will turn on him.
If west will pressure Ukraine, then Russia will get the better of it, but there is still time to see who will give first.
Why do you think Zelensky want to meet with Xi? Its so open too and west is not objecting either. I think they have a proposition to distance Xi from Russia.
