The intention is to stop scummers from putting them in places where the FT are forced to walk into them to proceed - looking at the wankers who trap the reinforcement radio here…

Its a beartrap.
The trap goes somewhere where the FT has to walk into it or they’re not going to walk into it lol. That’s why objectives are highlighted in thermal.

The only other way to use them is to throw them ontop of people from above in which case it might as well be a different gear item.

Its also a super duper bear trap which gets the player if they stand anywhere within the area of effect which is 10 feet across.

Its so unlike an actual bear trap in every way that it should have been called something else.

Not when the trap has an unavoidable area of effect which is 10 feet across.

Traps should be avoidable and should be used stealthily. Instead they have a huge bubble around them where they chomp on a guys leg from 10 feet away…

The bubble needs to be made really small and less visible so they can be hidden.

Activated - As in you’re trapped in it. I believe that’s to prevent people from shooting it off, rather than holding square.
