The Great Debate

For you trackers out there: Motion trackers or Observant (Ability to see mudded footprints perk) and why?

I feel like having both is overkill.
Observant for me. I tend to stay ontop of the FT the whole match and don’t give a lot of breathing room. Does require use of trees to get a clear view of the ground and I do feel like the footprints should last longer but it definitely helps when a FT splits around a corner for the reinforce.

Placing motion trackers down at compounds feels like a chore for me personally & I feel like I can deduce where the FT is headed in general without much issue since high traffic locations/objectives are too consistent. Motion trackers do cover a pretty large area but any gear that can be easily destroyed puts me off of taking it.

Also this is a mud thread. Discuss mud.

I use motion sensors on my scout, but I dont really place them ahead of time cause if the ft has that trap perk, your just letting them know where you’ve been. So I use it when I see them run into a building.

Mud doesn’t really help them too often vs me, so dont like observant.

Not sure if there’s really a huge benefit to seeing where people are in buildings that makes it super worth it though. You generally know they’re inside playing four corners & if they’re scanned you have info on where they are in the building already.

I barely ever use the motion tracker and I have not touched the observant perk. I find I don’t need them. Using target Iso and my ears are more than enough to find the FT. I always try to keep them in sight and I havent ever had any issue tracking the FT.

Oh its cause I use disk on my scout. That’s why. Scan does the same thing too, but sensors just a nice lazy way of doing it.

Me either but this is for fun value on the rare occasion the FT splits up.
I’ve had some pretty cool matches actually where the FT has split to clear compounds with silencers. How viable that is idk but definitely had some fun with it.

Makes sense

So does Ice Cold perk work against Observant, as it’s supposed to reduce your thermal signature? I would hope it carried some effects while muddied up too…

From what I can see icecold barely affects anything. It doesnt make seeing you in mud harder at all but it does change your body temp without mud however you still glow its just instead of orange you are green. In regards to footprints I have no idea if it affects it. I dont use the observant perk so I cant give you a proper answer about ice cold affecting the footprints for it.

Doesn’t affect the footprints but I think it affects the scanning. Can’t really tell since players with ice cold just seem to look like FTs who’s mud is wearing off. People who are freshly mudded and standing still though are pretty hard to see, makes for good sniping.

Never considered that when the mud starts wearing off it makes me slightly visible🙄 D’oh! O always try to mud up regularly, it’s borderline obsessive…
Interesting info, appreciated guys👍🏼

Mudding obssessively is the way to go. Less info for the predator.
For whatever reason the visual indicator for mud on the edge of the fireteam’s screen doesn’t actually match the timer for mud. Super misleading and leads to people getting scanned.

Really? I’ve been under the delusion then that if I can at least see some mud, I’m good. I guess the only way to know is to keep checking the ground, if that icon appears I need to top up irrespective of if there’s still a decent amount of mud on my screen. Looks like I’ll be getting left behind way more often🤣

I don’t know how cancelling in the middle of the mud animation affects it either. Would be nice if anything in this game was explained ever but I digress

Motion detectors applied proactively or once you have tracked the FT to the compound they have an objective to complete.

I have always assumed that the footprints fade as quickly as the regular ones, which seemed pretty fast to me. Spitballing maybe 8-10 seconds? If it is more it seems quick to me.

I generally use my ears and sound bubbles to find the FT, so footprints have never really stuck out to me as needing much attention.

Motion detectors in odd/hard to spot locations help me keep tabs on them and like was said, can quickly point out when the FT is split.

Motion detectors are also oblivious to mud, cold blood, smoke, and thermal cover.

As far as mud specifically, once I hone in the mask can usually be turned off which also makes mud almost pointless.

I think the rare few times I have paid foot prints any mind was to quickly peek and see which direction they go.

Side note. Does anyone else wish they could Predator mimic Billy’s laugh when you see/hear FT mudding up even after they have destroyed your mask?

Yeah this. Not sure if sprinting makes them disappear faster. I honestly want footprints everywhere and stealth/mindgames to be a considerable part of this game, but ):
Maybe we’ll get a mode that’s not “quick play” eventually. Thermal itself could really use something to stand out. Easier to play with it off aside from the ability to tag players, albeit knowing where players are at all times IS strong.

And yes more mimics in general, not perfect ones but distorted.

Quick play at least needs an extra ten minutes added to each individual mission. Give us all a chance to let our inner Solid Snake shine.

Like I can count on one hand how many times i’ve seen a premade FT split/double back/clear a few camps/throw noisemakers to set off alarms then regroup at a reinforce and it’s waay less monotonous.
