My personal belief is no. If u have kids that’s your bloody choice and u should also be helping them to get as financially secure as possible for when they come to buying their first home. Especially in this day and age with the economy. I definitely wouldn’t make my kids pay for rent.

If your super struggling cause cost of school or any other shit, but you can help out in other ways, then maybe no rent.
But if you can afford to give some cash, then yeah.
In most cases yeah tho. It’s a place to live. Shit if you cant do a whole rent, you can at least help with Bills or food.

From my view and a lot of my mates and other work friends. We have all agreed that at the end of the day. The parents have decided to have a kid then they should be able to provide a place to stay for the kid till they have enough money to move out. Making them pay for rent is just going to slow that process down a hella lot. Plus they didn’t choose to be born into this world either. It was style parents choice to bring them into this world, therefore you should also help them into this world and get them on their feet.
If you can’t afford to look after your kids then in my brutal opinion. Don’t have kids. I don’t care how many people this offends, but if you have kids knowing full well u ain’t got the money for them- you’re nothing but an idiot. Cuz then that’s not fair on them either.
And if I ever do decide to have kids, won’t be till I’m in my 30s when I know I am very financially stable and can provide fully for them, not half provide cuz that’s pathetic. Or then end up forcing them to pay rent cuz I can’t even afford to look after them. I think if half people used this way of thinking or used their brain, we wouldn’t be in the state where we are today and so many homeless and poor people.
But Ofc like you said fire, you should definitely help out in other ways, like with the house, cleaning or whatever.

No I’m not annoyed with my parents, I’m annoyed with other people’s parents who have kids and can’t even afford to help or at the very least look after them. How stupid. Like I said ain’t got the money to look after the kid, don’t have one. You wouldn’t buy a dog if u can’t afford the food. Same with the damn kid. It’s a lot harder for a kid than it is for a damn dog. And yet people will happily spend loads of money on a damn dog and it’s food but not their own child to get a house who actually has to work to live and that unlike the dog.
All I can say is if I have kids ima be the best damn parent.

So for example.
If your upset because you want money to be able to go out and buy shit you don’t need, but cant cause your parents are telling you to pay rent, then it’s not the parents who are in the wrong.
Might sound harsh but if you’re actually saving up you shouldn’t be spending your money on shit you dont really need.
The problem is you’re doing what most people do, and arent understanding that every situation is different.

That’s the thing. I literally don’t spend my money on anything at all. Literally fuck all. People say it’s a bad thing, but I’m desperate to save for a house, so literally all my money goes into savings or bills bro. I don’t spend on stuff at all.

Parents from Christmas. I don’t buy stuff like that for myself. My motto is if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Even with my own phones I keep as long as possible unlike most people who want the newest tech. I use it till it dies to save money.
