I thought the soundtrack was amazing. It merged well with the tone of the film. The musical legacy of Nine Inch Nails can be heard in pretty much the whole film. Only with slight inserts from Tron Legacy ( to tred that score too much would be a mistake).
Jared Leto, although one dimensional, was made a super addition to alot of the casting decisions that garner lots of attention for me. Star power drove the background, the lesser known starring cast also pushed its weight. The starring lead female Eve, has a resemblance to a certain Australian comedian of asian descent. I couldn’t help but imagine Jenny Tian all the way through which is surprisingly refreshing. But thats my opinion.
The only thing I found a bit confusing was the particle destructor/restructor thing, only because there are so many versions at work (past and present and a version in the grid that was holistically in existence) of how they either get sucked into the grid or ressurected into reality and now we have multiple grids and many ways to get out and back into the real-world and then back into the grid which so many devices are used it would be beneficial to think about it with friends or solitary searching because thats usually is what happens with complex sci-fi narratives.
When there is a concept that lingers and you just want to clarification in terms of the plot.
Other wise, the story beats really pushed forward, visually stunning, and i wasn’t disappointed.
The Tron franchise really works hard for its money. This film is no doubt a major contribution to the franchise.
On another note, the first 2 segments of the introduction of the film is like a ghostly after thought that you’ll only discover once you watch it again. Ares being resurrected over and over again fighting against multiple versions of himself. It doesn’t really hit you until you rewatch it.
On a side note: I’m glad they didn’t even try to broach the subject of HOW material gets materialized in their existing real-world. Such a thing would take so much time to explain if at all. Anti-matter comes to mind and that subject matter, although is existentially part of the particle de-rez thing, that they could have made it far more hard-science which they didn’t which was a good thing. It would be too much sci-fi fluff aligned with Star Trek and the tone of film really wasn’t nor was it ever in the original. That being said, The Permanence Code was a beautiful touch - chef’s kiss. Because it was the crux of the film’s motivation for even existing.
and If you havent watched the first film in the while, the ending is the sticky part that knods to the whole battle between ENCOM and Dillinger Corp.
