Yes, but thatās my point. What godly authority has told us that these people are in fact monsters, and that we arenāt for restricting their happiness, as opposed to everyone elseās? Or have we just decided that ourselves, based on what we believe to be true? Morality is irrelevant, and really the idea of society is an abstract concept in and of itself, meaning that it holds no weight as soon as you step outside the little bubble of self-deception the human race has created.
On another note, look where āmost happinessā has gotten us. Itās a mentality like that which politicians exploit in order to come to power. They tell people what they think will make most of their target audience happy, and the public will often just vote for whoever they think will give them what they want, not nessecarily what the country requires in order to function. Take the UK as an example. This country has been rammed up the shitter due to a nomber of things, one of which was Brexit (I maintain that brexit was caused solely by English boomers, who in themselves are valid arguments for eugenics).

Canāt really step outside society. Sure a tens of thousands of people do, but thatās from billions. Everyone for the most part has agreed to the social contract. Happiness may not be it, but people are content. For the most part they can live in their worlds and there is law and order. Perhaps it can be better than it is now, and i think slowly it is getting better as poverty is reduced and equality and equity of choice is on the rise. Terrible things still happen tho. Ambition, competition and progress are on the other side of the equation that may lead to happiness for the few.
