I was under the impression that the rights dispute was for the Original movie not the franchise as a whole? Also pretty sure it only extends to projects that were greenlit after the aquisition of Fox by Disney IE all of the new Movie stuff, Comic stuff, and the rumored netflix show. And that the game and all projects before the aquisition were still allowed to continue? I am probably VERY wrong and am in no way well versed in copyrights law and procedure mind you.

you’ re probably right. i dont think they have any right to challenge the PHG IP. because its already made. EVen new material shouldn’t be challenged as its still apart of the business model to include updates, patches and DLCs. EVen creative control is still between their relationship with Disney/20 century.
Even if the brothers win , disney would still own all the previous movies , the Thomas brothers would only have the rights for future movies made in America.
Which if you look at it , disney would just have to create it outside of america . Its fucking dumb

No idea , illfonic had to make a deal with Disney during the buyout of fox aswell , so I think the game would only be on hold temporarily.
Anyone got any update on what happened to court yesterday? between disney and thomas brothers? or will it be said tomorrow on monday?
Just from what little research I’ve done it seems like a shakedown to me, according to 2 articles I just read apparently there was a window of time after the acquisition where the bros had to refile for copyright of the Original Written property “Hunters” which is obviously the basis for the First movie and the spiritual progenitor of what we now know as Predator. Apparently they did not refile within this window therefore Disney retained all rights and legal ownership of the “Hunters” IP and the Predator Franchise IP, according to the bros there was some extenuating circumstance that should have extended that window of opportunity for them to refile and that seems to be their main argument. And That is ultimately why it is now going to court, But its should apparently not halt anything until this can be proven in court not before, unlike the situation with Friday where Paramount retained the publication and production rights but did not at that time have the IP rights from the creator which was the legal standing in his ability to freeze all F13 production as they entered into it knowing they did not at that time own the IP, that doesn’t seem to be the case here though as Disney did indeed absorb All Rights from Fox as a part of the Aquisition.
