Play the mode first before you give a judgment. There’s no point in talking badly about it beforehand
Why do many people rant about the new mode without having played it at all?

Because people are stupid. Granted the new mode doesn’t seem to be too special but I have yet to play it so I’m gonna hold my thoughts on this.
Because I can read dumb things and know they are dumb. I’ve never went free diving with great whites but that doesn’t mean I can’t assume it’s a bad idea.
