Why was Illfonic contracted to develop games for several popular licenses?

Is this what you get if you contract one of the cheapest developers?
Friday 13 is something I play seldom, in a friends-only lobby. Lots of fond memories and is responsible for creating my network social group when I started playing PC.
On the other hand, it is still bug-(hack-)ridden. Easy to cheese a time-out “win” where Jason can’t grab/kill you in certain areas of each map. Hence why I only play with friends… it’s also more stream-friendly that way.
I think this is their strongest title to date. Shame about the lawsuit.
I suspect that as one of the co-founders of illfonic is a Grammy Award winner with a strong presence in the artist industry, probably has the right contacts to reach out to be favored in the decision.
I don’t think companies have reached out to illfonic, but rather the opposite, illfonic has reached out to the companies

With franchises, this is usually the case. They need to acquire the lincense to develop for the franchise. They are off on a good start by positioning themselves as a company that does this and with lots of motivation since the mechanics of the engine and their dev history makes them more experienced in this sort of thing (the PvP kind of stuff).
Plus handling IP is a good way for them to obtain legal counsel so that when they actually develop code or a system of things they have enough legal experience in registering copyright for their own IPs or for patents- that shit is so down a rabithole that most companies who trade on the stock exchange have patents too. Good for Illfonic if it works out for them!
I’ve never heard of Illfonic until I bought PHG.

They mentioned in an interview that they know a guy who knows a guy at Fox and thought this game up in a bar or something.
All it takes is connections really, then you can put out shovelware.
