Wristblade cancel quick slash combo

Hey guys,

here is something neat i discovered. Maybe you already know it. There is a melee keybind in the options at the bottom of the list which is unbound by default i believe, bind it to whatever you like (i dont recommend left click, see below paragraph). bind your plasma caster to 1 for example. select your claws. use your new melee keybind then immediately press 1 to cancel into plasma caster. you will interrupt the combo stun and you can keep moving and even complete a wristblade combo while on the move. Buttons could probably be swapped on a controller to make it work too.

This is how combos should have always been IMO. fluid and being able to hit multiple huddled targets in one combo. The combo animation stun feels dated, clunky and the 3rd slash can be a pain to land. With this you can do 1 - 2 cancel -move forward 3 cancel (cancel the wind down on the 3rd hit at all times). Who knows maybe you will scare some ft who like to jump back and shoot while you whiffed your combo.

it is only using in game options and key binds no out of game stuff. enjoy!

reason not to rebind melee to left click:

"ya you will melee with left click by default. but there is a seperate melee button near the bottom of the list in the bindings which will use your claws and leave your claws out if you have plasma selected (so selecting your claws at the same time as performing a melee hit). if you have another melee weapon it will just attack with that weapon.

so if you have plasma and you just left click you will melee but plasma stays selected.

if you use the melee bind in the options with plasma selected it will melee but leave claws selected after.

thats why the cancel works because you can cancel the melee animation by selecting plasma again as soon as the hit lands and it cuts the melee animation short and selects your plasma.

for this reason i would not actually rebind that to left click as then everytime you melee with plasma selected it will select your wristblades, play with it and you will see what i mean. so use E or any other key as an alternate melee for this cancel trick and leave normal left click alone. I am going to edit the thread with this."

even if you are doing straight wristblade combos i would recommend the 3rd hit to always be done this way to get out of the animation lock at the end.

Interesting… but I think the animation is to long

you can actually queue animations to be cancelled, so like if the server is lagging enough for a bowshot to go off in the time it takes me to cancel into the next melee I can use the bow to cancel instead of the plasma caster and the arrow will come out of my face during the melee ;)

you can also do this to turn the bow into a shitty machine gun. Ping dependent.

You could cancel the animation at any segment in the 3 hit combo especially always after the 3rd hit to avoid animation lock

I haven’t made a vid but there is a window whilst landing with slam currently that allows you to do numerous things during the slam animation or cancel it entirely with another leap. Pretty much anything really, you can leap and slam a 2nd time, you can aim and shoot a bow, aim and throw the combi stick. Do try it, by my count we have about 27.8 days of fun left depending on how many people start doing it. LOL.

Ya i saw the double dunk in action. Havent tried it myself but good for a laugh coming from the animation cancel to that.

The timing is tight yet consistent enough to have piqued my interest ;o, its 2 or 3 frames at 120 frames :( you can also throw traps during the slam animation now.

Wow wtf. It would have been interesting if mechanics like that were intentionally baked into the game so there would be different levels ok skill with situational item use. The melee animation, while likely there for balance, insist on them being played one way. Who doesnt like playstyle options?

Yeah man its definitely a shame as many people enjoy a classic style of gaming with animation cancels and high skill movement… back in the day marines would be dropping off roofs and jumping back up backwards perfectly whilst shooting the pred. Nowadays most of the community is lucky if they can ever learn to parry the first hit rather then the 2nd :( That said a 1 in 60 frame input is definitely something you can commit to muscle memory, so maybe some people will surprise me and get it down pat. I dont think so but.

How is it a exploti if you can set this in game options? On the same basis spam spotting is a exploit i think
