An attempt at constructive discussion on high tier Pred gameplay

I propose again in a dedicated topic the discussion that was generated following the video posted by @Samhain13 in the video section. I refer to that thread for the details of the discussion.

The reason I open a dedicated topic is to attempt a constructive discussion on the state of the art of the high tier pred gameplay.

@Thunderwolf450 argues, from his legitimate point of view, that this style is perfectly adequate when it comes to playing against premade teams.

I analyzed the video and, perhaps wrongly, I thought at first that he was unequivocally using this kind of macro:

Samhain later showed me in a private session that it is actually possible to achieve remarkable speed in certain combinations between switching weapons and firing, just by rebinding hotkeys and fast mouse clicking.

However we were unable to exactly replicate the frequency and speed seen in the aforementioned video.

I would like the gentlemen to express their opinion on the matter, in a constructive way.

The fundamental question is this: apart from the use of macros, which is not verifiable, is this style of play absolutely legitimate? only relatively? Not at all?

I would like to hear the opinion of main predator players, thank you.

When playing top tier Fireteams, the primary name of the game is the amount of damage that can be dished out in the shortest period of time to achieve a single FT downed (or even multiples). While the mods (via the devs) on this forum have even stated/verified that the behavior is definitely not intended, it is legit, imo. Being able to hit key sequences in a specific order, incredibly fast, while in close/mid-range combat takes a level of skill in itself, imo.

Also, while it is incredibly advantageous to be able to switch weapons this fast to maximize the DPS, the movement of @Thunderwolf450 (and other great Preds like @Samhain13 @BeerWarrior66 @Blade_Master300, etc.) is just as, if not more, important than the weapon switching when going against a top tier team.

Reminds me of when people figured out button combos in halo 2

did you try doing it with the fast hands perk equipped? which speeds up the animations therefore by using a macro for 1 frame button clicks would likely cause them to be near instant

No fast hands, Thunderwolf didn’t use it in the loadout

So then what it’s just weapon swap#> Aim>Fire but with like 1 frame button inputs?

I mean all these are unintentional mechanics that are within in the game.

This is in every game you play.

Halo was the first with nade throw into Shotgun shot instantly.

Then Call of duty with the drop shot.

PHG just has alot more than other games.

Veteran Console players who have player online since its birth like Halo and other games are used to these types of mechanics.

While others call it cheating.

Veterans call them happy Tactics, Secret Mechanics etc.

Looks completely doable with practice, legit got me wondering if I can pull it off with a controller and weapons wheel, no doubt its going to be slower but Ima fucking try my best

Its possible on console to do some sneaky quick animations , even after the update that “adjusted” it

Ok, so I’m trying to replicate this both in private and in pubs games. Rebinded my keys so I can quick swap weapons with keys 1 (plasmacaster) , 2 (combistick), 3 ( bow). Also trying to quick shot plasma, combi and arrow (no interval between aim and shot) by fast clicking right and left mouse.

Maybe it’s a thing of practice but I don’t see how someone could achieve that speed and most importantly the 100% working ratio. What happens 1 out of 3 times is that you wristblade instead of shooting. This “combo failure” was clearly noticed also in the test we did with Samhain.

If this whole quick swapping / quick shooting is indeed doable with no additional software (most importantly during the heat of the battle, because that’s when it gives enormous advantage), I’d like to see videos of other players doing it. That would be the “gravestone” of this whole affaire.

Even more, I invite all predator players to try this technique, to introduce it in their style of play, to master it to the best of possibilities, and then to take stock of it. With the numerous good pred players out there, videos will start to flow in no time.

I wonder why no PC pred player (apart from bendinlight) has intervened in the discussion

Damn. Illfonic is like, “Animation cancelling, what do you do?” 🤷‍♂️

Well, you fix it. They let us down on so many levels.

They “fixed” it , they also confirmed there were ways to hack the game aswell . From experience though its safe to assume they don’t give a shit , they probably only play it when they stream it anyway
