I loved 2 despite how awful it was, but yeah I played a bit of that van helsing game as well. Canāt remember much about it apart from a couple bosses, terrible level layouts, and a ghostly skin lol

ive payed all of them except the 1 on ps1 or soemthing. Ive played the last one 5,which was the most cinematic IMHO.
itās predecesor DmC which was also really good .
Dmc2 was cool since you got to play a girl.
Overall I think in the genre of hack and slash, it really is tops.
But the latest one is still over the top japanese like with itās devil lords and such which is popular to a point.
Not only that but beat it on harder difficulties you can play as DMC1 Dante with Force Edge and Trish with the sword of Sparda!!!

There arenāt any on ps1. Iāve actually liked them less and less as time went on with 1 being my favorite. Everything keeps getting retconned to hell and devolved into a generic anime sibling rivalry plot. Gameplay is top notch though so I canāt stay away for long lol
None ever got retconned, the time line is still 3, 1, anime, 2, 4 then 5 but your probably talking about the one from ninja theory cuz ya thatās totally dead lol and Iām glad for it and hears why
Yes, 3 retconned the entire backstory.
Vergil originally died as a child. Nelo Angelo is his soul under the possession of Mundus. Yamato also had no significance and was just a Katana. Now Vergil is a main villain and Yamato is a central plot element.
DmC was at least a coherent story despite not getting the characters right at all.

Spardas power didnāt come from Yamato. It came from the amuletsā¦ you might have missed that when Dante got both, Force Edge became Sparda.

This is because Vergil was killed as a child. If you need some reassurance, itās literally stated in the Nelo Angelos notes, maybe you didnāt get that far?
You seem to be someone who likely started with 3, because you have no knowledge of the original storyline. Mentioning the anime at all just proves my point that the story is all over the place.
You shouldnāt have to purchase extended media to relay a storyā¦ unless that story is absolutely full of plot holes that need to be explained after the fact.
The worst selling game in the series is 3. On release it was trash. There was no content, and OG players didnāt understand why Dante was now a teenager with his shop, as well as why tf Vergil is alive? On top of all that, the normal difficulty was set to hard on western copiesā¦ so it was a major failure until the Special Edition happened which added all the bells and whistles.
DmC remains at higher sales that 3 and 3SE. 1 as well was the top selling game until 4SE, and now 5.
Both Capcom and Itsuno both expressed a desire to continue DmC. The reason they didnāt is because NT signed a contract with Microsoft which meant no more DmC. The reason we have 5 is because after DmC2 was off the table, Capcom gave Itsuno the choice between DMC5 or Dragons Dogma 2. He chose DMC5.
You should ask yourself why they were so adamant on rebooting in the first place? Donāt pretend DMC is some kinda console selling franchise lol 3 tanked the series and 4 almost put the nails in the coffin.
Donāt get me wrong Iām happy 5 is a thing. But Iām pretty sure itās the last game theyāre gonna make because the story is so fucked they needed to include a general rundown to get everyone on the same page lmao

**Devil May Cry 5 director Hideaki Itsuno has said that he would rather work on a new game in the series than a remake.
VideoGamer spoke to Itsuno-san at a recent event for DMC 5 and asked him if he would be interested in remaking any of the past games, especially given Capcomās excellent track record with remakes.
Itsuno-san said, āYou know, itās interesting because no oneās really come to us and said, āOkay, make a remake of any of the Devil May Cry games,ā but [I] would love to do something like that.ā
I, personally, have a strange soft spot for Devil May Cry 2, which is something of a black sheep in the series, and Itsuno-san explained, āThe only thing is, it always becomes a matter of, well I could make a remake of Devil May Cry 2, or I could make a Devil May Cry 6. [Iām] generally going to be interested in making the brand new game, you know?ā
It makes perfect sense for a director to want to explore new projects, rather than revisit old ones, but it is at odds with Capcomās approach elsewhere.
For any fellow Devil May Cry 2 nerds, rest assured, there are more of us than you might think. When I revealed my soft spot for the game, Capcom producer Matt Walker told me, āA lot of fans have, man, I know what you mean. Yeah youād be surprised how many fans love Devil May Cry 2. The point in what Iām saying between the two is that timeliness donāt match up. Dantes easily in his 20s in 1, low 30s max. If 3 takes place 20 years before 1, and Dantes 18-21, then heād be in his 40s in 1 and 60s in 5. No. Just no.
