Not uncommon for anime to wrap up important arcs with a movie,. Takes longer but usually has a way higher production value than the show. And they pull out the big guns for the sound design and art.
Speaking of movies, if you guys havenāt checked out Made in Abyss give it a shot. Everyone lives around this giant hole in the ground and as they progress down it gets crazier, and makes you crazier, the further you delve into it. It starts off pretty and cutesy then turns into a surreal survival-adventure, the protagonists being kids does not deter the violence. Delvers who are legends on the surface and havenāt been heard from in ages, are actually batshit insane mutated dark souls bosses down below, theyāre actually more dangerous than the animals down there for the sake of discovery. Best worldbuilding iāve seen awhile.

Definitely inspired by danteās inferno. You can tell hell is hell though. In the abyss the prettiest things are usually the most lethal.
