Back on the road (kinda)

The thing is the pain is constant as I said, 24/7, every second while you’re conscious. Some meds help to a degree, numb it down, but no med I ever tried (including weed) completely takes the pain away, you’re ALWAYS in it as long as you’re alive. The only option I have is to completely severe my spinal cord so I wouldn’t feel anything (my injury is that my spinal cord is not severed, it’s damaged in another way), but then I lose any option in the future if there is a cure to get it fixed, because once you cut it, you’re done for real.

It does feel like it’s a difficult issue to get control of. Every so often I’ll see the news of something promising on the horizon, but it’s in early testing and then I don’t hear about it for years. Very unfortunate cause i feel like the science may be there, but there is not monetary motivation.

Yes I talked to many peers who are in wheelchairs etc for decades, 30-40 years and they always hear the same thing every 2-5 years, “the cure is right around the corner, look how fast the medical field is evolving”, but you all see the reality, there is no cure and won’t be for a very long time :)

I understand, i think. Spinal chord is motor and sensory pathways. While motor damage is just paralysis, sensory can be very unpredictable. There is pain, temperature and tactile and perhaps pressure. If damaged, it’s either bad or very bad.

That is a tough choice you have to live with.

I feel like it could be around the corner, but a lot of it could mes down to funding, like with everything i guess.

The problem is that when the spinal cord is damaged, but not severed the signals that are constantly being sent by the brain towards your legs (doesn’t matter if they’re paralysed, brain is still doing that) get distorted once they pass the damaged area and the distorted signal coming back to the brain is THAT PAIN :)

Makes sense. Feels like what needs to be done is to have a local device or drug that would prevent the signal from traveling back to the brain. Obviously easier said than done, but i think there are types of ‘channels’ that the signal has to go though so you’d have to stop the signal there. Of course the smart people know all if this.

Yes there are ideas exactly like that floating around but they’re far from perfect or fully understood yet :)

It’s a good start. Just wish there was more urgency to it.

There was never ever any urgency towards disabled people in this world, we’re the lowest caste :)

I’ll check it out later tonight, though I’m not sure if I’ll have enough time to finish it.

Although human beings can be quite cruel, i feel like society is built on a way as to protect and take care of people in general. If it was natural order or like wild west. It feels like there is accidental altruism built it.

As far as being disbled and urgency, what would really be a good driving force is to to have a lot of disabled rich folks, not that i would wish this in anyone. Then things would get done. It’s not really a problem until it’s a rich person problem, feels like that sometimes.

You’ll see if you watch the documentary (it’s super good, made by us) that that’s not the case, it’s getting better, but WE have to fight tooth and nail for everything with all these insane obstacles and the apathy just never truly ends from able bodied world overall…

Very true. Christopher Reeve did a lot for us, wish there were thousands like him (I mean not that I wish this on people, you get my point).

I’d say it’s more of pure flight pioneering :)

I watched half. It was definitely a difficult talk to get things done socially. Gov only though about how many would benefit and what the upside would be. The greatest disability was about having a voice.

The camp was very instrumental in sharing or ideas and experiences when it came to social action. It was also very good mentally for the kids. Just shows how good humanity can be and what it can achieve.

If it bands up out of pure honesty and humility and pure wish to help each other… Otherwise we just like to screw each other over lol
